Angie
Just heard that Berlusconi has resigned under the pressure and demands of the euro zone problems. Will France be in trouble next ? How badly will this affect UK does anyone know ?
Cinnamon
Good - he was an utter sleaze. The Euro situation confuses & worries me. I feel that the only thing they can do is withdraw...
Angie
I know he is a dodgy geeza , i know we don't have the euro but so much is linked to it . I feel it is going under and the £ will suffer too but i don't know how, due to the fact i don't really understand it all . I get the debt , and i get the fact We are part of europe but why should we suffer so much when we refused to accept the euro . I think the UK does its part and adapts to all the EU rulings when the rest of europe don't , it makes me cross . (i guess it all will affect the $ too)
sadietoo
My OH has suggested that now that Berlusconi has gone Italy can go back to having a different pm every six months....like the good old days!!
snowberry
Mmm, Italy has never had a good track record when it comes to their Premiers has it? I wonder why that is so? Even though we aren't in the Euro, we have so much invested overseas, it is a worry
patsylabrador
I've been reading the news like crazy trying to grasp this. This is how I see it. I like Europe and liked the common market but I hate being part of Europe now. I don't like the control that Brussels has over us or that the last government cancelled a treaty I can't remember the name of which gave us some rights to veto laws that were wrong for us. The main part I don't understand is the global debt, who owes what and to who, and if everyone is in debt who's doing the lending? It amazes me that so many apparent experts, politicians, financiers, businessmen, bankers all around the world have made such a mess of things. If they can't figure it out, I won't be able to. They'll be fine, its the rest of us that lose out. I think Europe has held Britain back, in a speech to businessmen the PM said we export more to Ireland than we do to USA, China & another country put together. We are a very entrepreneurial country and apparently there is a business in Anglesey that sells canoes to Eskimos, a bakery that exports Naan bread to India and so on. I think he is hoping to help that kind of spirit to grow and look much wider than Europe. That doesn't really answer your question at all does it. Just me thinking aloud. The BBC news website has a how did it happen & what's going to happen page which is quite good. I don't understand hedge funds and speculating on stuff that doesn't exist at all. Makes my head hurt. As for Berlusconi, what a sleaze bucket. He controlled so much stuff I don't think he's really gone.
patsylabrador
There was some report by the CBI that if the Eurozone collapses that initially GB will be affected badly but eventually we will be in a better position than if the Eurozone stays intact. I don't know what that was based on, it got a bit complex and I gave up. The trouble is that these things are being said by the same people who are running things now so I find it hard to take anything seriously. BTW, just in case you're wondering, OH went to work at 5am so I thought I'd henna my hair. Started to fall asleep which would have been a pillow disaster, hence tapping out loads of stuff I don't really understand just to keep awake. Beaky
It is crazy to think that the Euro might well go under in the next 6 months, I can't believe that it is actually a possibility It's har to guess exactly what would happen if the Euro did crash. I read an article on the guardian recently that seems to think that it would benefit the UK in the longterm and I can see the logic in that. The Euro is the most invested in currency in the world and the dollar too has been a bit wobbly recently so people might see the pound as a safer option. Mad to think that we might go back to carrying pesetas on a string when visiting Spain!
donald
Yes glad he has resigned what an embarrassment he was! Richard Gere he is not! Sooner we get out of Europe the better and bring our industry back to the UK. Some of the products made out of the EU are complete rubbish...its false economy. But bet most italians are glad this dreadful playboy............has gone. He was a bad representation for Italy , complete comical character not to be taken too seriously.Buffoon.
