Send him to my OH... Today he has helped me clean out the WIRs.... Has chatted away to the girls affectionately... Given a few a cuddle... And went to the allotment to dig up some of the spinach that he planted for them :P

Neither of us smoke, we don't go out that often, and have reduced our holidays (pre chickens we had 3 holidays a year, now we have one), so yes, they cost us a lot but they are worth every penny as they constantly make us giggle :D

My family were horrified at the amount I spent (and still do) setting my lot up. I've got the last laugh on my mum though as she's now buying chickenalia for England now she's got her own little flock of bantams, she's even talking of keeping the 2 boys as she's rather fond of them! I caught her eyeing up the two that she rejected at the begining for being bullies (him & her Orp banties), not sure I want to part with them. Couldn't believe what I was hearing  .

I've had this also, along with 'maybe you should buy shares in Omlet/Farm & Pet Place/Wynnstays' I have to admit I more relish a trip to F&P Place than town!

I don't smoke, nor drink, I rarely go out, although OH does with the lads and OH has a PS3, that cost more than all the girls I have put together!

They reward me with love, affection and eggs and a little chitter chatter, far better than any man can do!

My OH loves my girls ,but not as obsessed as me  ...I don't smoke (he does) I don't drink (he does) I have changed my spending habits since getting them .Last years coat will do and my boots were in a sale. The meal worms come before make up.

We spent a lot of money when we set up our WIR etc 6 months ago and we have a wooden coup.I have not a lot of space but would love a couple more in the spring...and a cube..working on it ,I don't drink or smoke (he does :lol::lol: I call that amunition.

I know if I had some spare cash on me, my first thought would be buying some Chickeny treats like extra sweetcorncorn or grapes. rather than something snacky or chocolaty for me lol

how can he not think they're adorable lol, i would not be surprised if chickens are far cheaper to keep than a dog or cat, which require constant vet visits as well as their food being more expensive. chickens are far more economical (granted initial setup e.g. runs etc are a fair bit)

and I'd rather spend my spare time building them a swing and other run furniture and roosting bars, which i will be doing tomorrow rather than stuck in the house bored. :)

We've saved really hard to be able to order our Cube next week, and neither of us smoke or drink so i'd say they're worth every penny, as the joy is returned tenfold :)

Does he spend much time with them? because I'm sure if he did, he'd start talking to them and cuddling them :D

I am afraid he just eye's them up through the window but they do make him laugh! I think it was the mention of a walk in run that set him off!! But as I pointed out a WIR would last for years where as golf club membership is only 12 months!!

There is nothing to worry about though as I just do what I want when I can afford it anyway!

You aren't the only one. Everyone rolls their eyes when they hear me talk about my chooks, they think I'm mad, well, perhaps they are right, its the effect that Morehens Disease has on you, once its there, you can't seem to shake it off. I now want more hens all the time.... I'm hoping to hatch some in the spring as I have a rather large 20 egg incubator....

My other half was pro me getting our ladies but originally wanted to wait til next year as we had just moved house. She has had the job of building the henhouse when it arrived - and was slightly ratty to say the least. Last week I broached the subject that I thought we needed an Omlet Cube as I was concerned about the draughts, damp and poor quality of the house we just bought in July. I started off by saying "I know its expensive but I'm just getting the cube because we can adapt the run we have" - it was met by a firm "no - we want to buy the run that goes with it - we can add extensions to it - I like the orange or green one and finally - no - don't get your dad to build it - i'll do it"!!!!! Amazing what hens can do to a woman!!!

I've totally amazed myself by how much I've spent on my chooks. I recently got one of those new annual statment things that some banks are sending out which say where you have spent most of your money over the year. To my horror Omlet came out in the top three, only just after our local petrol station  Needless to say OH does not yet know that my bank provides those neat summaries :liar:

That's brilliant cheeky chook

Travelodge came out on mine... I use them for chicken shows

In the time I've had my girls I've spent several thousands... Cube.. Eglu... 2 Walk in runs... Incubator... Brooders... Sick pays... Emergency pens.... Furniture for the WIRs.... Vets bills... Not to mention feed, treats, cleaning supplies, health supplies, but it's all relative.. They make me happy, and are great fun :D

The meal worms come before make up.

I love it!

We've only had our girls since mid-Sept and have just gone up to 2 eggs a day. Big deal huh. Having worked out that we've spent £1100 so far (a cheap wooden house that we got fed up with very quickly, a Cube that we love, 21m Omlet netting, 2 cubic metres of wood chips..............) and got our 110th egg yesterday, they're working out at £10 per egg  . But the fun and laughs - priceless.. :D

With two more girls coming on 12th and presumably not laying until next year, our egg price is going up, not down! :?
