miffy
Has anyone used one of these before?? I am just playing with mine, not as easy as I hoped to keep straight on the line. I have increased stitch length to 2.8 and just used the needle that I have been using (it came on the machine) am I doing this right?? Any advice appreciated
Plum
That's right though it's always good to try a new needle if you have trouble with any sewing project. I tend to use 2.5 length but see what you like the look of. I don't change anything else on my machine unless I am doing wavy lines then I release the foot pressure a bit so I can move the fabric as it sews. It's no different to using any other foot for doing a straight line, try marking your fabric with a light pencil mark or chalk so you have something to follow. If quilting a straight line across an item I often use masking tape to give me a line to follow and it comes off after dead easy.
miffy
Thanks for those tips!! I have had a great evening playing with the walking foot and the stitch in the ditch foot. I seem to get a neater result with the later, but the fabric layers seem to ruffle up a bit. The walking foot is great but I don't seem able to keep a long straight line going.....I think I'll try the masking tape
Angie
My walking foot i set at 3 to 3.5 when doing stitch in th ditch. Keep the materials free flowing not restricted in any way and it should go through the foot quite easily with a gentle guide from you . Happy sewing. Christian
Also, you are supposed to use a new needle with every new project! I don't, but probably change needles every week/2 weeks. It does make a difference. Good luck!
