Yipeee...it's here! The lovely Roy from Omlet arrived this afternoon (after first going to my workplace which is just around the corner  ) with my WIR and extension :D Two cups of coffee and a few Bourbons later (for Roy that is) and it was all done! It soon got dark so the girls went off to bed while I dashed about in the darkness getting it all ready  It was just like Christmas Eve when the kids were little  I can't wait for tomorrow morning when they get up  Think I'll quietly wish them a Happy Christmas as they emerge

Thanks :D I let them out and it was so funny to see their reaction as they were still in their old run when they went to bed yesterday so it it was all new  They were chatting away, as if to say "OMG where are we? What is this strange place? Oooh there's a huge pile of leaves...whoopie! Let's get scratching!" I'm glad it was early so no neighbours saw me in my dressing gown, talking to the girls as if they were 3 year olds on Christmas morning :lol:

Is it light enough for the camera yet?

It's a bit like when you know you've got a friend who wants to come and nosey around your house but you've got a few more things you'd like to do to it and you'd prefer them not to see it until it's exactly how you want it! I've got quite a bit to do still but here you go :D

I'm already pondering whether I should order another extension? I'm getting 2 more girls tomorrow, Frizzle Bantams and I don't know if I'm being daft over the amount of space that they'll all have? I've got the room for another extension...not necessarily got the money! but I want them to have the best life possible and I won't really be able to let them FR much :? What do you think?

It looks great, i really like the omlet runs, they look so smart. You have lucky girls! Regarding the extension i would go for it if you can afford it although i am sure the girls will have enough room as it is! I know what you mean about giving them as much room as possible. Look forward to seeing more pics of the newbies, frizzle bantams i am vey  have great fun! :D

That looks really lovely, Cheeky, well done, even if you don't feel you have finished it yet. All those lovely leaves - plus all that lovely chicken poo - great compost for the vegetable beds!

Extension? Hmmm. Cheeky, I can't quite see - is your Classic inside or outside the run? I think if you have the space for a bit of extra run then go for it. If it was a repair to the car, the money would have to be found from somewhere, wouldn't it? I hope that sounds convincing! I'm having a similar internal wrangle about getting some more ex-battery hens and not wanting to compromise on the space fpr my three, so I will wait and see if there are any offers on the Classic fixing panel over Christmas. I think that would be a good compromise?

Thank you :D Here are a few more pics, after I'd tidied up the surrounding area a bit and put together my link-a-board  Makes all the difference huh

It's so nice to be able to get right in there with them

As nice as it is, I think Matilda still yearns to explore outside!

The classic is attached on the outside of the WIR...I was in there with them when I took this :)

I'm getting my 2 Frizzles today  and I'm sure the 5 girls will be fine in the WIR as it is but I think I am going to go for another extension :D

Looks good :D

Cute little girls!

I'd get the extension if you can afford it, if not there is plenty of space and you could wait and see if its on the January sales...

Can I ask a favour please?

I can't see the size of the panel that the classic attaches to - is it 1m wide? and how deep is the bit that pokes into the eglu to attach it?

You need an old garden bench in there :D

 I have an old saw horse in mine!

It looks brill :D I am  about your bantam frizzles too. Would love to see more pics when they arrive. Personally I would get the extension if you can to make the intros easier. I found introducing bantams to hybrids pretty difficult but then I didn't have loads of space.

Don't know if you can see it clearly enough in this pic?

Yes, the panel is 1m wide. I'm not 100% sure about the size of the bit that attaches the eglu to the run...approx 4"?

 I thought that myself!

They are little poppets! :D I'll take lots of pics tomorrow  Hopefully there won't be too many squabbles :? as they are all pure breeds; been there and done that with hybrids! Never again :notalk::lol:

Thanks! :D

So does the eglu just butt up to the WIR and not secure onto it? I didn't know if there was a bit of the WIR that screwed onto the eglu under the shell, like the current run does.

Looks just like a Go shaped hole to me!

Yes, I panicked when I saw the panel 'cos it is a Go shaped hole! I was told it's used for both but I'm not so sure...why would they specify when ordering if you want one for the Classic or the Go?! I'm going to speak to them about it today.

The attachment piece screws on under the shell just like the run does and you use cable ties to fix it to the WIR :)

sometimes an 'accident' is just unavoidable isnt it! Wish we had space for an extension but have a large Scots Pine in the way of where the run would need to be extended. But i like the thought that if we ever move house then the Omlet WIR is easily moved and also then easily extendable.

 Hi there,

Just wanted to say that although I've only had my pekin bantams since 8th October (now totals 9) I put up an Omlet WIR over 7th/8th November and haven't regretted the expense. It is so wonderful to be able to walk amongst them, and with a tarpaulin and omlet covers to protect them from the worst of the weather, I stay dry too in their company, joy of joys I say. Can't wait to get a larger one next year together with another eco hen loft! The only drawback has been with the door locks, as the plastic coating is coming off in places, but otherwise I'm thrilled. :D
