Essay writing!! :(

Recommended Posts

I've got a 2,000 worder due on Sunday and I haven't started it yet due to a TMA deadline last week and the Solar PV deadline this week... Is it an OU course? Because they say a 2,000 word essay should only take about 3-4 hours to write (I think that's a very conservative estimate), but I find my time easier to manage if I divide the essay into sections, allocate a word limit to each section, and tackle it bit by bit. That way you can do it in the evenings, and you've still got 2 weeks or so to finish it in! Writing out a constructive plan and getting your main points down will take you less than an hour and will give you a really good base to start the essay from and stop you from panicking so much about time management. It's always easier when it's down on paper and deconstructed. Good luck!

No it's Birmingham Uni. I know what I want to write , it's just actually doing it and making sure all the referencing is right. And you can't submit online like you can with OU - that was soooooo much easier when I did my Masters. So I have to risk the Christmas post  will it even get there??

I'm exactly the same, can't work ahead, just work to deadlines! Even if I start it I won't concentrate until I know I have to finish it.

Our assignments are always in for 9am ... I finished one at 5am last week ;) For that one we had to draw various horsey female body parts from a dissection we did, I hated my drawing but looked at them again this week and actually quite pleased with myself (for a change) once they were scanned in! :D

Good luck :D

I got taught about "snack-studying" this week by my diss tutor, he suggested writing for an hour at a time, maybe just an hour a day, or 1 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon, and then you write for about 5 hours, then review it all. Apparently if you write like this a lot of people find they have better, more concise and well written work. Maybe try that? You can do it :)

I'd love to be able to do it like that, but I have to spread all the notes, files, books, journals etc out so that I can put my hand straight on them as I type and inspiration strikes. Consequently my desk looks like a mountain of paper and I just have to go for it.

Thanks for all your positive vibes though - can always count on Omleteers for encouragement

Anyway, I've reached the printing point, and collating with all the appendices etc so phew!

Had to laugh at YD last night - did a word count (well Word did it for me) and it was exactly 4000, but when I told her thinking she might be impressed she said "I hope you finished your sentence!"

Sooooo looking forward to completing this course in July and then I'm NEVER doing another (I never learn)
