Chucky Mama
My DD is nearly 16 but rather small for her age. She is getting asked for ID rather too regularly for her liking at the moment so I think that it is time that she got some sort of ID to carry. Is there any free or cheap way of getting an acceptable ID card other than the Citizencard which costs £15?
Mum
I take it she doesn't have a passport? Certainly the Citizen card is cheaper than a passport if she doesn't already own one.
Chucky Mama
She does have a passport and I suggested she took a photocopy but...the photo is 'OMG so awful, I can't carry that' I don't even know if a photocopy is acceptable. Lewis
Could she take her passport out with her? Just seen, no Only ones I can think of are the PASS ones - theres regional and national cards if you click through at the top. Know the kids at school used to get bus passes on to prove they were under 16 which had their DOB on but I guess she wants the opposite! Chucky Mama
Thanks Lewis, it looks like £15 is the going rate then.

Geoid
You can get a driving licence at 16, because you can drive a moped then.

Have checked and I think she would have to pass the moped theory test - if it was a license that she could keep ready for when she starts driving I would consider it but is doesn't appear to be as simple as that - thanks though

Alis girls
We are in London and the teenagers have Oyster cards for the bus - has a fetching photo and DOB on it - do you have similar round your way? Passports can be nicked which is a pain as costly to renew.
Chucky Mama
Hmm, she can't get a student card until she is in 6th form I don't think and doesn't have a bus pass that has her date of birth on. I don't want her to carry her passport (with the awful photo) in case it gets lost or stolen. I think I will have to stop being such a Scrooge and fork out £15. Thanks

patsylabrador
Do you know anyone technical enough to make your own? If its just for child safety and identification purposes I don't see the harm. I think its quite popular in America. Could she do it as a project in school?
Cinnamon
Just to say that if she needs to use it for buses, cinema & do forth,it will have to have the PASS logo on it & be legit, not home made. Home made ID defets its purpose really. Working on a checkout,we only accept Passports,Driving licence or PASS cards,& I know that this is the same almost everywhere. Student ids are not acceptable as they are easily forged.
patsylabrador
Yes, I agree, I think they're mainly good for child safety on medical grounds or if the child has been involved in an accident. Might be worth carrying one anyway.

PapaJuliet
OH was refused a beer (for me) in the TD Gardens in Boston on Thursday because he didn't have his passport with him as id and they wouldn't accept a UK driving licence. OH is also 42 and wasn't exactly chuffed. PJ
