pips_pekins
OH failed to notice that one of them was not in the eglu when he shut them up last night. Poor little Bramble, my frizzle pekin, was left out in the cold all night. She seems perfectly fine, thank goodness. Not sure why she was out after dark. Although I always do a head count, they've always put themselves to bed all together. OH was quite upset this morning when he realised and asked how to make their porridge. Hopefully they've both learnt their lesson
Cinnamon
One of mine,Weed my Columbine, sleeps al fresco all year round. We have tried to put her into the Cube, but she just comes out again She perches up very high in the walk in run,& has never come to harm, even in the very cold weather we had last year. Ain't Nobody Here
I'm glad she's OK (your OH won't be doing that again in a hurry ). All 4 of mine sleep outdoors (in the WIR) too, even through the sub-zero temps last year and the storm last week .
Chooksrus
I've done it a couple of time and they've never come to any harm but they are not impressed by your mistakes though. I cleaned the cube once and forgot to open the door - they spent all night huddled on the floor of the run. I let them free-range in a fenced off veg patch at the moment but if they fly over the fence into the garden and I haven't opened the other hatch, they head for the top of the hedge. Recent mistake was last week - let them free range in the veg patch (on the Monday) but didn't notice that one had made it's way to an area between the run & hedging (not easy to get into!). I eventually saw it on Thursday - so 3 days I went down when it was dark, collecting eggs etc and didn't notice it missing. Me bad. Now I take more care counting them at night. Luvachicken
I forgot to open the door once too. It was only when I went to collect their food that I realised they were all stood on the ladder waiting to go to bed. Whenever Hubby shuts them in I always say "did you make sure they were all there" He always says "what do you take me for?" But I still check to make sure
