New modification to our Cube

Recommended Posts

We have had this cube for just over 2 months now and have so far been very impressed. We have been letting our two ex battery hens (Beryl and Barbara) out when we are at home or during the weekends, they have settled in well even with our 3 cats! :) However the lawn has seen better days so we have decided to smarten up their cube and make a few modifications allowing us to use a substrate. We have chosen wood chip for the substrate as we feel its hard wearing and reasonably cheap when bought in bulk. We didn't want the wood chip all over the patio so decided to make a wooden border and staple pond lining to the inside with multiple holes cut out for the wheels and small ones for drainage.

So here are a few images:

Thank you all for your comments :) I'm really happy with it, they don't seem quite as happy being locked up though. I'm now thinking of extending it with another run extension. Do you think 2 birds have enough room in this run during the week if I let them out on weekends?

I have just taken the plunge and bought a 1m run extension, it seems a bit expensive at £100 but I want to give these two chickens as much room as possible without wrecking the lawn. I will pop to B&Q with the wife tomorrow to get more wood and pond liner. I will take a few photos next weekend when it's all done :)
