Egluntyne
Old Peoples Homes are going to be so scary - full of skinny, wizened bodies with taut faces and really wrinkly hands and knees Plus faded tattoos and holes where piercings used to be. *Shudder.*
Cinnamon
.....and two great big jutting out half oranges where normal boobs should be ,which won't be a good look on an old lady
beach chick
yeeeeurrgh, what images! interestingly, my 8 yo, who likes her Bratz dolls (more the stuff that goes with them I think) clearly recognises that Pish is not a real person: "look Mummy, what a big head she's got"!!! bronze
No I get like that. I was the same hence my earlier reply. Its a feeling of who cares?
beach chick
not sure that I'm wound up by her, more a question, as someone said earlier, what is she FOR?!
Cate in NZ
I am reading this post wondering what you are all getting wound up about and why you are being so nasty about Victoria Beckham! Serious!!! And I am not a Spice Girls fan at all - I think they are lousy (although I have always quite liked the butch Scouse one). But I cannot seem to get wound up about anything at the moment. Do you think there is something wrong with me??? Dan............ maybe it's middle age creeping up Seriously I sort of agree, I used to get wound up by all manner of things, I still do to some extent, but I pick my battles now, I haven't got the stamina nor interest to shout about everything that irritates me. And thus the Spice Girls. I simply don't care. I never really got into them last time around and am even less interested this time. If there are people out there who really want to part with huge wads of cash to watch them lip synch then so be it. I'm not one of them, but equally can't sit in judgement of them. And if Posh, Scary, Ginger et al see the oppotunity of earning themselvesa few million then who can blame them for grabbing the opportunity. I do agree that Victoria Beckham looks gaunt and scary, and I hate the idea of her as a role model for teenagers today, but I can only influence my own teenagers (and even that with only limited success ), and sadly the media do seem obsessed with her, no matter what I think. I don't believe anyone is worth £10m, but if the great British public are willing to pay out that much to see the Spice Girls Reunited, then more fools us, and all the very best of luck to them. starboyhull
I guess your right Kate, its the "public" that puts them where they are.......I liked them the first time round (when I was quite young) but I wont be paying to go see them in London........You cant blame them for cashing in on the mugs who will pay though..... Cinnamon
I will tell you why she winds me up - I am the mother of 2 teenage daughters & she is a terrible role model with her skinny frame & fake boobs. I just don't like her or anything she represents. Maybe its an irrational hatred........I can name a dozen other celebs who make me turn the TV over........but there it is. Not much winds me up these days, but when I see the likes of Victoria, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Ritchie & Paris Hilton obviously relishing looking like anorexia suffers when they are looked up to by some teenage girls (although not mine - they have more sense!), well that makes me MAD!!! Lesley
I agree Sarah - she, and her ilk, are terrible role models for todays teenagers - far worse that the images that were around 20, or even 10, years ago. You've all seen photos of Lauren - I do not pick photos which make her look good, they are as they come, she is tall and well built - but she is constantly being told at school that she is fat Both my daughter and I have weight problems of varying degrees but we have been careful to never discuss it when any children are around - we don't do faddy food/diet food or moan about feeling fat, in fact, fat is a word we just don't use. All this is undone by photos of so-called celebrities flaunting their size zero frames. Lauren at the moment is OK with her body but 'friends' who see the size zero models as something to aspire to are seeing Lauren as fat. I, also, pick my fights these days - whereas I used to rant about everything - but this is one I choose to fight as well and Yes, Dan - you're getting old!!! Cinnamon
We don't use the F-Word here either Lesley Both of my girls are very tall & very slim but they still get called fat by other girls at school. I think its jealousy - Cleo was called fat this week because she had a slice of cake with her lunch.......& she is a real skinny little thing (the girl who called her fat is not ) I joined Weight Watchers this week & have taken the decision not to tell the family, just to make more healty meals & see if the notice any difference. They haven't complained yet! And I also agree that Dan must be getting old
Couperman
I maybe just being cynical but.....If Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"hers diets worked on a long term basis wouldn't they go out of business? If I was on the board at Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers and out to make loadsa dosh I would want to sell a diet that has great results initially but then doesn't work long term, so that when people put the weight back on they would sign back up and do it all again! I'm not for one minute suggesting this is what Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers do of course! Has anyone had long term success with their diets? Kev. Cinnamon
I maybe just being cynical but.....If Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"hers diets worked on a long term basis wouldn't they go out of business? I think that the point is that more & more people are becoming overweight due to our poor diet as a nation & so have the need to diet - therefore more customers for Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers I have done it before & lost 4st, which I promptly put back on again when I got pregnant with Cleo, so I know it works for me. It is a better, more balanced diet than most - Slimfast,Atkins,Cambridge etc are all quite extreme & cutting out food groups or drinking shakes is not for me at all. Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"chers is now more of a long term eating plan & education about the right things & wrong things to eat rather than an extreme diet. And that is what I need

Lesley
I find both Slimming World and WW place far too much importance on 'diet' food - list of ingredients as long as your arm I'd rather be overweight but healthy (well, slimmer and healthy i suppose )
Charlottechicken
Some low fat equivalent items have more calories than the full fat version, because they are full of sugar. And of course if you don't burn off the sugar doesn't you body then store it as fat anyway I am sure I read a story about a doctor who was also a long distance swimmer, used to do the channel and that sort of stuff, he was clinically obese, but really really fit at the same time
Lesley
Medical opinion is coming round to the fact that you can be fat and fit. I was at that stage before I hurt my knee - I need to lose a bit of the weight I put on through being laid up before I'd say I was "fit and healthy but carrying some weight"
Cinnamon
Lesley, I don't do Diet Food either , apart from semi skim milk & canderel. The WW plan is good for me because every food is an option. Yesterday for a combined Breakfst/Lunch (Brunchfast???) I had a fried egg, a sausage, 3 rashers of bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes & bread & flora.......all on the plan Of course it is still to be seen if I have lost any weight this week And if I were a little overweight I am sure I would be happy - a size 16/18 would suit me fine, but I am a lot overweight & my health is suffering, so its back to WW
Lesley
That sounds fine Sarah - although I wouldn't touch Candarel with a barge pole My main diet is fine - but I'm tired and eating too much chocolate - which must be making me feel more tired and so I eat more chocolate......... I'm going to be on strict rations of chocolate from tomorrow to see what difference that makes. If it works for you, you will feel so much better. It is years now since I went to Slimming World or WW - perhaps they don't place so much reliance on products from the 'diet industry' now? bronze
In the same way you can be slim and unfit . Like me I can't be too bad I have three children to run around after but don't ask me to run anywhere
Lesley
You're quite right Bron - my son is usually slim and fit - but has lapses when he's slim and unfit He always complains that Gillian McKeith never chooses thin people for her programme and thin people can eat unhealthily. Jules.
I maybe just being cynical but.....If Weigh"Ooops, word censored!"hers diets worked on a long term basis wouldn't they go out of business? Has anyone had long term success with their diets? Kev. I started Rosemary Conley 2 years ago, & lost 24lbs in 12 months, which for me is good as I just make 5 feet tall. I have put it all back on now I KNOW what to do, & yet I still stuff chocolate in my mouth. Last year for my birthday my parents bought me a gorgeous dress from Per Una size 8- it's my birthday on Wednesday & I can't get in it I feel fat & unhealthy, but dieting to me is so much a "state of mind" & I know if i choose the "right" things to eat then I can maintain or lose weight, & the more upset I feel about my weight the more I am inclined to binge. I am having a family do at the beginning of September & I don't want to go looking like this
Couperwife
I am a size 14 - 16 (depending on the shop) I know that if I want to get fit/tone up/lose weight, I need to exercise more and eat less rubbish. unfortunately, I enjoy chinese food, wine and cakes. therefore basic common sense tells me that I will not get any smaller there are a lot of beautiful larger ladies out there - who are always so much happier than the ones that are starving themselves
Lesley
When we bought the farm 12 months ago, we left our house fully furnished while we tried to sell it. I only brought clothes with me that fit now - and left 3 wardrobes full of clothes in sizes from 10 to 16. I have to go and pack up the clothes soon - and I know I'm never going to be size 10, 12 or 14 again I find it so hard to accept and clear out the old clothes
