TAJ
Today I was working from home so had the hens out in their netted off area and the ex-batts had the rest of the garden to themselves. They were fine everytime I checked on them - then the door bell rung, 'I have chicken in the oven and in the garden' was what greeted me! One of the ex-batts (limited feathers, so cannot fly) was in a back garden 2 doors down. Our gardens are pretty secure so I can only assume she got under the gate to the front garden as she could have walked through their metal back gate - the alternative is she flew over two 6ft fences The other three were all safely just pecking the grass just outside the Eglu - I noticed last weekend one was going it alone and off one her own the other side of the garden - she is obviously a bid adventurer and making up for lost time and enjoying her freedom. ...needless to say they spent the rest of the afternoon in the run! TAJ
She mainly stayed with the others today - only at one point did I find her (in the garden) away from the others and directed her back in sight of them - they even all got themselves back home for bed before dark tonight. I just remember them only 2 months ago standing on one leg at a time the rest their feet and not eating pellets - now they eat anything, scratch around all the flower beds, dust bathing - just normal chickens (just a few more feathers still needed now!)
