Leave in the crate or place in the Cube to roost?

Recommended Posts

I had to take Bertha to the vet this afternoon.

She is blind in one eye, which happened in early January, although we have no idea how it happened, there was no blood or even any wound. She went on a hen holiday and came back, has been laying and eating and drinking. For the past 2 days she hasnt seemed herself and today she was standing alone in the sun, whilst the other hens were trashing the garden as usual.

Bertha is usually head hen and this behaviour is odd. So I rang a vet and took her there almost straight away. The vet was very helpful, we put her on the floor, no John Wayne walking, she pooped on the floor  and the vet is as stumped as I am. She has given me a painkiller to administer in case the eye is giving her pain and advised me to separate her so I can make sure she is eating and drinking as her crop felt rather empty. Her comb is red and she is eating treats as usual.

Now - she is in the run in a large dog crate, do I put her in with the others or leave her in the crate but put her on top of the Cube tonight so she feels safe up high? She is very unimpressed at being in the crate but needs must and I can keep a good eye on her, she is a devil to catch!

Any thoughts please ladies? (and the occasional male  ). Thank you.

Hi, it's a couple of days so sorry not noticed your post. I guess you'll have had time to see what is happening and if she's eating, drinking etc., how is she? I'd put her with the others as she's not going to eat and drink at night.
