Egluntyne
Sad news...Those searching for the young boy swept away in Millhouses Park have found a body a quarter of a mile from where he went in. They have not confirmed that it is him yet, but I think we must assume that it is. How truly dreadful. 900 people are trapped in various office blocks etc around the city, mainly in the Brightside area. The concert at the Arena was cancelled and the Arena is now being used as a point of safety for those rescued. Many of the roads near the city centre, where the Don has burst its banks are 5 feet under water. Most roads into the city are under water. It is absolutely dreadful. I've lived here for over 20 years and have never seen anything like it. My son, who was working in Castleford today, has had to stay at his boss's house in Chesterfield tonight as they couldn't get into Sheffield to drop him off. At least he's safe. The Dogmother
That's dreadful Egluntine. Let's hope that there aren't any more deaths.
Charlottechicken
Looks like GMTV have camped up in Sheffield, John Stapleton is outside a building with the name 'Helen of Troy' on it, and someone else has been in the Sheffield Arena with all the displaced residents. It looks awful, hope everyone up there is safe and sound
Cinnamon
Fingers crossed for better weather today,so those affected can get back to some sort of normality as quickly as possible. Terrible news, it looks awful on TV this morning
Egluntyne
Further bad news......another death in Sheffield due to the floods. A 68 year old man was swept away in an area known as the Wicker, when he got out of his car. This area is very close to where all the helicopter rescues took place last night, and the roads were under up to to 5 feet of water. Up the road in Rotherham the Ulley Dam is about to burst and consequently part of the M1 has been closed to avert further catastrophe, and hundreds of people have been evacuated. 90,000 are without electricity. Meadowhall has been closed.............unprecedented!
Mrs Frugal
Good grief, Egluntine. This is dreadful . I'd not seen what was happening last night but it's all over the news this morning.

Guest
The pictures on the tv look horrific this morning - I'm thankful that, while the weather hasn't exactly been great up here, it's nowhere near as bad as around yours Egluntine. Fingers crossed for everyones safety.
lisa33
My thoughts are with everyone in the Sheffield area. People down here are complaining about the cold until they see the pictures on the news / internet and they suddenly realise they have nothing to complain about!! Hope everyone keeps safe

Egluntyne
Yes thanks! We've been lucky so far where we are...just have to keep unblocking drains.....but apart from that we have got away very lightly.
Kathy C
I am glad to hear you are alright, and praying that the rain will hold off for the relief work. Tina C
Glad to hear that you are OK Egluntine. Its hard to believe what is going on in the rest of the country, as we haven't had anything like the bad weather everyone else seems to be getting. Helly Welly
It is awful for those affected, just unbelievable weather. I've been watching News 24 as that dam situation looks very serious indeed. The most i've had to worry about is a couple of mini lakes in the chicken run!
beach chick
that dam looks absolutely beautiful... hope everyone manages to get a bit sorted today, and the rain holds off.

The Dogmother
I've just got hold of our consultant in the Sheffield office; luckily, he lioves on high ground nr Hope Valley, but he had to abandon his car in the jams this morning and walk to his meeting in his waders - bet that looked a sight with his suit and briefcase. It's awful about all the people who have had to leave their homes. Have you heard from Choccy Egluntine? Is she ok?
chocchick
I'm OK, was just isolated for a while as we have no power, landline, hot water, TV or Internet We have no flooding but water dripped through our gas boiler. We are near to where some council flats got flooded and people were evacuated, and Sheffield Wednesday seemed under water. Have come into work to use the Internet, see civilisation and look at pictures. No-one else seems to have been affected apart from intermittent power cuts. We were cooking on a gas camping stove and listening to radio Sheffield on a battery powered radio, and I sent a few texts but my battery went and it wouldn't make calls. Bizarrely the tram is working down the road even though we have no power and the traffic lights are out. Here are the council falts near the Beeley Wood where the bottom flats were evacuated. Some flats above still had people in them.
