Tina C
Half a pound of cherry tomatoes, with another half a pound ripening up on the plants as I type. They are still going strong - not sure they will last till Christmas though
Martin B
A few huge leeks yesterday!
chickencam
An enormous swede yesterday, and our leeks are doing well too. Looking forward to the sprouts for Christmas we haven't had our own for a few years as we have club root problems but lots of manure, lime and rain and planting them as large plants has helped this year. Helly Welly
Yesterday i harvested loads of parsnips from the front garden (i'm the only person i know who grows parsnips in her front garden)! They were huge, nice and chunky right down to the end. Even had some two and three legged ones. Also dug up some Jerusalem artichokes, only one plant but they all tumbled out of the ground like treasure.
Clur
Picking our parsnips on Monday in preparation for Christmas! Went to pick some of the carrots yesterday, but they're tiny - the biggest one was about an inch long!
Lesley
I've picked carrots, leeks and herbs. Carrots were a bit wormy but mostly OK. Also picked some beetroot which I'd forgotten were still in the ground I've cooked them in the microwave and am just waiting to see if they've gone too woody. chickencam
That's amazing, is your greenhouse heated? I usually lose control of ours in the autumn and the mould sets in We are having the first purple sprouting of the season this weekend and still have carrots and leeks, a swede and a few parsnips

chickencam
How has the flavour held up? and what variety are they?
Tina C
They are sweet and juicy and the skins have not gone tough! We started to take them for granted, but over Christmas our friends and family could not get enough of them! They actually came out of one of those 'Grow your own tomatoes' kits from Woolworths - 10 seeds, a pot and some compost. It was reduced from 4.99 to 2.49 so I bought it for Layla to start her veg plot off (we had raised beds last year for the first time - mine is 4x4 and hers is 4x2). We gave 3 plants away but the other 7 started producing in May and just kept on fruiting. They were doing so well we decided to keep them on the windowsills. I kept the info and it says they are 'Robin' - they are a bush variety and the plants do not grow very big, plus you don't need to do anything other than water them . My auntie visited in Jan and she was amazed by them too. She spent some time trying to find out about them, unsuccessfully. I suppose I ought to contact Woolworths to see what company supplies their seeds but have not got round to it. I really need to sort myself out and get some more tomato seeds planted - but I just know we are not going to have the same success as we had with these. chickencam
Thanks for that I've not heard of that variety either are they like the ones that can be grown in hanging baskets ie. about 12 - 18 in high and very bushy with loads of flowers and fruit? I might try keeping one of the hanging basket varieties in the house next winter
Lesley
Mushrooms!! - from our cheapie box from Woolworths. We've either both been spraying it with water or both forgetting - so we had a surprise today - three large mushrooms! We've also got lots of white sprouting broccoli - it has been really good this Spring - the purple is just starting.
Tara.F
I really need to sort myself out and get some more tomato seeds planted - but I just know we are not going to have the same success as we had with these. why not take a tomato from the plant, squish out the seeds and plant them? toms don't really cross and will probably grow true so you are more than likely to get the same result again for free
Valkyrie
Unless they are from F1 hybrids - Sungolds never come true - bland red cherry or yellow tasteless things we had from them (how they found such a sweet variety from those parents, I'll never know) - they had self sown so we thought we'd see what happened. Never again. But you never know - try it and see. You might find they are the best and save the seeds for future generations - in a few years it might be part of the Heritage Seed Library!
