Fox chewing holes in Omlet netting.

Recommended Posts

Our 10 girls have a large walk-in run and used to free range in the whole of the garden by day but as the 'summer' came and the children wanted to be in the garden we decided to try to reign in the chicken poo. We bought omlet netting and they have a large section at the end of the garden. Since we got it a couple of months ago we've had a few holes in the netting - it looks like someone has snipped through one of the twines with scissors. This last week the holes have been getting bigger - big enough for chickens to escape. This morning I let the girls out only to find 5 in the garden a few minutes later and a hole in the netting that was huge. Even the thickers ropey bit between the big and small holes had been bitten through. I can only think this must be Mr. Fox :( I now don't know if I can risk even letting them into the netted off area without me being in the garden. Any advice? I've mended the holes with twine but it's a bit gutting, not least because the netting was £100 and now is falling to bits.

You're not alone - mine was wrecked last year - it must have at least twenty holes in it, botched together with twine. The only answer is to take it up every night or at least makes sure it is not assembled as a run, so there is plenty of room to exit for the fox. It is galling to have spent all that money and for Mr Fox to wreck it.
