Broad band provider

Recommended Posts

smaller providers are better - i wholeheartedly recommend Zen. Not cheap, excellent support (tech and otherwise). Current record for connection not falling over - 2 years 10 months, 2 days

I have to use virgin at home - the worst customer service in the world (probably worse than BT) and at least one line drop a day

With sky, was with bt before we moved, went with sky as they were cheaper. Not had any problems and seems a lot better connection than bt which we were alway having to reset. Also got the half price deal, and they installed so much quicker thank bt.

DD has had sky for years now and she has had no probs...

We're with Eclipse, and have been for quite a while (a couple of years, I think). To date, I have had no technical issues at all, and just one technical question to ask, that being answered intelligently well within their stated timeframe. Given I've had to deal with Brutish Terrorcom in the past at work, I fully understand your wish to switch, and am happy to say the service we get from Eclipse is so much better than BT as to be unrecognisable.

Orange were good but their Indian call centre was a nightmare when things went wrong, BT were fairly awful too. Sky needed a rocket up their behinds before we got a decent service. Things improved markedly after we contacted their managing director with all of our tales of woe  So I can't really recommend any of them

Griffin, I am sure you're on the right lines. I'm afraid customer service might not be good from any. A couple of colleagues use virgin and really recommend them but we won't be able to get the tv, and therefore maybe not the best deal. We are leaning towards sky, but again another colleague said he'd had speed issues recently, which seems to be a theme on here. I will ask them!

Speed issues with Sky? There is nothing more likely to enrage me than the way they tried to throttle us when the package we were promised was unlimited  A large family, most with laptops, my beloved PC and Mr Griffin doing loads of work from home. Of course we're going to use a huge amount of bandwidth each month! Throttle me at your peril Sky

Beware they will also try to sell you a product they cannot possibly deliver. They basically 'rent' broadband & telephone lines from BT. BT only allow them to use so many. We were assured we'd get exactly the same package as we'd had with BT but for cheaper. We were assured they'd have a high speed line in three months, and until then our bill would be half price. Three months passed and the then wanted us to wait another three months etc etc etc. After having words with the MD, we were contacted by their executive support department who arranged for BT to release one line just for us ahead of the rest of the town who were waiting too.

Mr Griffin knows more about this than me but there are sites were you can see who provides the best broadband in your area, who they rent the line from and the speeds they're getting. That's how we knew that there were people in our area with Sky who were three times faster than the line they gave us.

We too had issues with Sky when I enquired about moving from BT to them in January.

They said that they do not provide any BB in my village - odd them that 3 neighbours all have it

I had to jump through hoops to get the truth out of them - that they rent lines from BT & simply did not have any more available.

We have no choice but to be with BT - there is nothing else here!
