Sorry to be dim.....but how exactually do you all know Bumble is a girl????? Is it the eyeliner?? I ask because in my 1st hatch I had a chick with eyeliner and yes it was a she (infact she was the only girl!!!!!) I re-homed her 3 brothers (georgous they were too!!) and kept her, she is called Penny.

 

Sorry for side tracting, just very interested!!!

They are gorgeous. Were your eggs posted, how was hatch rate?

No I collected them from someone on the forum. All three mini silkie eggs were fertile and hatched and of the three Dutch bantams two weren't fertile and the fertile one hatched.

 

So 100% hatched, I was thrilled, just in case you can not tell

So you should be too. I had a bit of trouble getting silkie eggs I liked, but finally have some in my incubator now. I bet Tumble will love the silkies.

I saw my first incy Silkie hatchling just this week - a wee black, rather wet, fluffy being and a broken egg shell sill in the incy. It wasn't even mine and I was thrilled

I don't see why it wouldn't be feasible as they are all growing up together and Silkies are such gentle beings that I wouldn't have thought they'd be nasty to those who are a tad smaller.

I thought I would update you all.

 

Sadly Bumble died yesterday, she had not been quite right for a few days, she seemed to find it difficult to move around, I had hoped she would improve but sadly it was not to be.

 

I had put off putting them out in the eglu as I was not sure how Bumble would cope outside. But yesterday I decided it was time for the other three to go out into the eglu.

 

Noir who I am pretty sure is male, Tumbelina and Elvis are now in the eglu but are not getting the hang of going to bed in the eglu

 

I have tried the torch and had to resort to the broom form of persuasion

 

I hope they get the hang of it soon.

Oh I am sorry about Bumble . You may have to be a little patient with those other Silkies as Silkies are not known for their brains. They are the real pretty blonds of the chicken world though Polands must come a close second as two of mine still haven't got the hang of going into their house at night and they are POL

The other three put themselves to bed tonight, clever girls (or should I say girls and boy).

 

Each has a different hair do, one I am sure is a boy has laid back hair the other two I hope are girls one has hair going in every direction and the other has a very neat top knot. Time will tell

I would say that 'laid back hair' is likely to be a cockerel. The one with 'hair going in all directions' may just end up as a hen with a rather scatty look and not much of a pom pom. I've had one of these in black. She looked like she had an up-ended paint brush on her head
