Mr Rhode Island Red
I have 2 ~30 week hens that seem to be gurgling when they breathe and they also occasionally sneeze. They are a Rhode Island Red and a Sussex. I have put Garlic in their water, any other ideas of remedies as to what I should do? They have no other ailments at the moment. Thanks, Mr rir
daxigirl
They need some Tylan or Baytril from the vets. It's infectious so try to isolate if you have other birds. It's mycoplasma (something like that spelling anyway). I've got 2 I got at auction just getting over it.
Cheeky Chooky
Sorry to hear your girls are under the weather. It depends how bad they are/how long they've been like it as to whether you'll need medication or something more natural. I've used Herban in their water in situations like this...it's great stuff and has always done the trick
chucknette
Hi I have two young hens gurgling and a bit sneezy at the moment. I have started the Herban as its brilliant stuff. I am also dosing them with mint and garlic granular for the anti viral properties. Mine also have no other problems so hopefully this will pull them round. Plum
I do the same but if their chest are rattling and they go off colour with it, I'd get some antibiotics from the vet.
Mr Rhode Island Red
So, do you think the garlic is enough?
Plum
If the gurgling is nasal not chest and they are eating and drinking I would wait and see but any sign of chestyness and not eating, drinking, looking hunched then I would be off to the vet. I'm not sure garlic will do anything but herban/oregostim and citricidal have a reputation but I don't know if there is any valid evidence supporting their use.
