jeshen
My two owlbeards are now 15 weeks and 16 weeks old. Not having had chicks before these two, I'm not sure whether I can now put them on to layers pellets. Is it still too early? At the moment I've got all the girls on growers as everybody eats together. The adults do have access to grit and oystershell, so I'm presuming they're getting enough for egg production - they seem to be ok and are still laying. Does anyone know whether there's any chance that the owlbeards may start laying in about a month, or is that unlikely for this year?
poppers77
I'm sorry I am not familiar with owlbeards. However I heard it's not wise to put your girls on layers too soon. I kept mine on growers they actually started then gradually swapped ?
sjp
I like to leave my growers on growers ratios untill they are at least 18-20 weeks old but I do like them on layers before they start to lay as I'm not keen on eggs from birds that are on growers but thats just me I'm also not familiar with owlbeards but I've got 3 of my cross breed pulletts that are the same age as yours that I don't think will start to lay this side of Christmas even through thier older sisters from Febuary this year started to lay at 18 weeks old
jeshen
Thanks both. Will hang on a bit, then. Didn't think it was too likely that they'd lay this year as the days are already so much shorter. Will have to look forward to New Year owlbeard eggs!
