Cinnamon
I have eBayed for a long time - I have positive feedback of well over 2000, & although there have been problems & issues from time to time, this one has me tearing my hair out! I sold my Tassimo machine, along with a big bag of T-Discs a couple of weeks ago. It worked beautifully & was almost as good as new. I packed it really well (packing is my thing!),but when it arrived with the buyer he tried it & it didn't work. I can only assume that it was damaged internally somehow in transit. I can claim this from the Royal Mail, although I will be about £10 out of pocket, but never mind So the buyer returned it to me today,& it has turned up smashed, with the top of the box slit open & the T-Discs (which I assume he sent back too) removed. He wants a refund, which I have given him naturally. I can't even test it,but I know it is my machine as I marked it discreetly before it went out. But can I also claim from the couriers he used for the damage & loss they caused????? I am not sure,as it was 'worthless' already from the damage the Royal Mail did! Aaaarrrrrggggghhhhh
WitchHazel
Sorry to hear about this Sarah. I would definitely pursue a claim for damage with the courier. Did you by any chance take photos? It's unacceptable for any item to arrive in the condition you describe. TBH, you'll probably have more luck with the courier than with Royal Mail. soapdragon
What a pain in the bottom! E-bay is fab and fun when it works but can be a nightmare when things go wrong . I think photos to the courier would be a good idea as, presumably, you have the pics that you took in order to list it and can send those as a comparison? Hopefully this will elicit a good response but still a hassle for you to chase up. Good luck.
Cinnamon
Yes,I have photos. But I think the sender needs to claim.....I will ask him. Plus my Royal Mail claim is done & in the post....... It is such a mess!
rabbitfluff
Yes I think the chap you sold it to will have to make the claim on your behalf since he was the one who paid for the courier. When our couriers lose or damage items we have to make the claim not the customer (might be different with other couriers though). We have to provide proof of what the item cost us as well as a signed form from the customer saying it was damaged/not delivered.
Cinnamon
He is now claiming, but boy,he is not happy at all. However I expected a machine in good physical condition with an internal problem (which I am certain my Husband could have fixed as he is very handy),& that is not what we have got. The worst thing is the fact that the box was opened & all the T-Discs gone....there were about 60 of them!
Looney
What a total pain Hope the claim goes ok, hassle you could do without OH sells a lot on eBay and it is these type of occasions that make him Thankfully they don't happen too often. My Dad sold his old reel to reel player last month on eBay along with a load of music reels. He had advertised it as in working condition apart from the counter. An old chap bought it but a week later complained it didn't work, how disappointed he was, it wasn't as described etc etc. Dad refunded him without argument and drove the 40 miles to collect. On further inspection, the buyer had clearly removed the cover and attempted to fix the counter mechanism and then hadn't put everything back in the right place What a pain! It all ended well though, Dad mended it, relisted it and it sold for twice the original price!
Chucky Mama
Couriers and Royal Mail will try to play the 'insufficient packaging' card. You do also need to extract any compensation from the buyer if the couriers pay for the damage. What a headache
Geoid
A bit off topic, but why did you sell your Tassimo? I thought you loved it!
Cinnamon
I did,but as the girls got older & moved out it just never got used any more. Plus it stops me drinking too much coffee...... The extra space on the kitchen side is well worth it!
Cinnamon
Update: The buyer, who sent the item back to me, is refusing to make a claim against the couriers he used for the postage he paid to get it sent. I am wondering,as the big bag of discs was not in the parcel, whether he just wanted those kept them, rather than them being lost in transit??? Anyhow,he has left a negative feedback for me,which really sticks in my throat. I am going down the defamation route & have sent all the paperwork off to eBay today,as what he has said is really not true, & I am beginning to have doubts about his honesty altogether
The Dogmother
Sounds like you might just be right Sarah - greed and dishonesty always nark me.
Bramble
This is awful, you are such an ace Ebayer and have given me lots of help in the past. I have to say, my immediate reaction when you said the discs were missing was "were they in there when he posted the parcel?) Maybe that's just my cycnical nature, but I can't help it? Hope you get it sorted, keep us posted ...
Chucky Mama
I agree with Bramble. I think he is trying to pull a fast one. It is a shame to get negative feedback as you have done nothing wrong
soapdragon
Oh Sarah, you must be gutted at the neg feedback Hope you get it sorted but what a hassle! Sometimes you wonder if its worth it, don't you?

I am going down the defamation route & have sent all the paperwork off to eBay today,as what he has said is really not true, & I am beginning to have doubts about his honesty altogether That happened to me, someone bid on my item, won, then left me negative feedback with made up some story saying how I cancelled his bid (I didn't) and that I was a waste of space. eBay didn't care, at all. I don't sell on eBay anymore.
Cinnamon
I just hope that the Royal Mail settle my damage claim without involving him,as I suspect that he will now not be co operative, which could jepodise my claim.
