My Paul Hollywood 8 strand plaited loaf

Recommended Posts

Good on you for trying - would like to have a go.

I did the Battenburg last week - turned out really well but not impressed with quantity in Mary Berry's recipe. I think it needed a 6oz mixture and maybe ditch the ground almonds as it seemed a bit dry. Oh well, will just have to have another bash.

My next aim is raised pies - supposed to be on a lowish carb diet but really want to try it.

Did you knead and prove it by hand or in a breadmaker?

I started with it mixing in the KitchenAid but finished the kneading by hand, on reflection I don't see why I couldn't have made the dough in the bread maker.

We've eaten half of it with some homemade carrot and coriander soup tonight and there's nothing wrong with the bread itself, quite a dense loaf with a more salty flavour than we're used to, but then I think Paul Hollywood does use quite a lot of salt in his recipes.

I'm certainly going to give it another go - I won't be beaten by a plaited loaf  .

Well done Sue, I'm inspired to try flatbreads later this week.

I've never made bread apart from a concrete block at school that stank of yeast. I've just made a loaf using the recipe on the outside of the allinson flour packet this morning and it's another brick but doesn't smell of anything so it's back to Paul Hollywood for me  I'll try again!
