charly1979
Found my Fliss not looking to great 45 mins before the school run did my best to perk her up and bought her inside made a comfy bed in a box and fed her some warm apple juice.... Couldnt bear to leaver her home alone so took her to do the school run with me, she had some odd attacks in the car really thought she had gone when I got to my sons pre school but she was still with us but I knew she didnt have long, collected my son the went to get in the car she was out of the box but on the floor by my pedals picked her cuddled her in her balnket another dad who keeps chickens had a quick look and said she didnt have long as he said that im sure she went She was 3 years old and until recently in lay and at our last vet visit apart from her cought she was in great conditon. The vet commented on what a beauty she was. So shocked shes gone and to top it off the new cube is being delivered tomorrow (fingers crossed). I have no idea what it was that made her ill, was it the cold weather but shes lived through worse or the damp house they have which Ive been trying to keep warm and clean etc (please note its not really realy damp dont want anyone thinking im a rubbish chicken owner and I did have the spanking new cube on order) Im so gutted to have lost her
daxigirl
That's just awful. What an horrible experience for you. Big squish and I don't believe for one minute that your a bad chicken mummy. (I have to say that I did the same with Brillo and took her to work in a box in the car till I could get to the vets at 10 but she had gone when I came back to check on her after the boat.) Only 1 sleep till Cube Day though, so hopefully a better day. Edited December 10, 2012 by Guest

hilda-and-evadne
Such bad luck. No one would think you a bad chicken owner. Sometimes chickens seem to die for no reason. Their hold on life is very light. Commiserations - Fliss does look beautiful in that photo.

charly1979
Thankyou everyone for your kind comments, its still not sunk in yet, I know there will be plenty of chookies to follow on and joing my gang but as with the three Ive lost I will miss her greatly. I love my pets to bits but its only now 3 yrs plus that I realise how much I love chickens, when my mum started keeping chickens over 11 years ago we all laughed at how dopey and soft she would be with them and now I think maybe I am dopeier and softer than she is.... But I think it all pays off as not only do I get eggs from my girls they somehow manage to get me mothersday cards, birthday cards and christmas cards and presents what darlings (Often find OH concentrating proir to my gifts, as if he is trying to remember how many we have and their names )
