bluekarin
Neela came back from her walk drenched this morning (I was too but i can take off wet clothes) and then sat shivering in front of the fire. She doesn't seem to have a waterproof on her own coat yet so would a dog coat be a good idea? If so any recommendations?
loumabel
I have equafleece for my two labs www.equafleece.co.uk and I can recommend them. They are great at wicking the water away from their coats and keep them toasty warm too. One of my Labs had a hip replacement recently so has a huge shaved patch on his leg and back and his coat keeps him dry and warm and it also saves time on drying two very soggy doggies. Ps. mine have the polo neck dog coats and I find these stay in place without getting all rucked up like other dog coats. lillybettybabs
I posted a photo of my old boy in his waterproof all - in - one somewhere on here. Here we go! He wears it to keep Mr Athr ritis at bay. http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=91123&p=1227446#p1227446
The Dogmother
My two wear Hotter Dogs fleeces when it's cold/wet and 3 Peaks semi-waterproof coats when it's just wet. Being hounds they tend to feel the cold.
Lavenders_Blue
Tango has an Ancol Stormguard. It's not the best fit on her as she is deepish-chested but slim and long in the body (I'm making her sound very oddly proportioned - she isn't ). So basically the coat is a wee bit short on her back. It does keep her warm and dry through. However I am REALLY coveting an Equafleece.
bluekarin
The equafleece does look good. I like the day glo yellow one! Thanks for all your suggestions. They are much appreciated.
lillybettybabs
Just bear in mind that the fleeces aren't water proof but will dry them off quickly after being out in the rain.
loumabel
They are not classed as waterproof but I took my two out in them yesterday for an hour and it was teeming down and they both stayed dry on all the covered bits. If they do get wet, the fleece still keeps them warm and usually by the time I have driven home they are pretty much dry inside their fleece. The equafleece also wash really well, I am literally washing them 2-3 times a week and tumble drying and they are standing up to it really well. I should get commission from equafleece for this plug!!!
lillybettybabs
We have a colour code here, Labs in green, Spangles in blue - it looks like a football match in the mornings. Edited December 15, 2012 by Guest
chicken bark
I got my dog's waterproof coat from The Smart Dog Company - find them on Facebook and ebay.
Mercedes55
I bought a waterproof coat for our shih tzu just to keep her dry as I know they don't need keeping warm. However I ended up throwing the coat away as it was too long in the leg and I tried to cut a bit off and just ruined it. I have seen a few nice coats in Pets@Home but they were all padded and I was just after a waterproof coat. It's amazing how little dogs get so wet with being so close to the ground and a lot of the coats offer a lot of protection for the top of their bodies but not much for their undercarriage which is where they need it
The Dogmother
They are quite easy to make Mercedes, why not have a try at making one which actually fits her. I made some fleece ones for my two one year and they are still going strong.

The Dogmother
I just made a pattern from one I had - easy as pie. If you knit then there are loads of patterns for knitted dog coats, but do bear in mind that the threads tend to pull on them.
SarahJo
OH got our Sprollie a 3 peaks coat, works a treat as she has really long hair and hates getting wet
The Dogmother
Aha! Here's the photo I was looking for of Frank (LL foster dog) in his onesie... doesn't he look warm? I think the photo's a bit large but it just as I grabbed it from another site; I can't get p'bucket to work at the moment to sort it out. LolaLayla
Lara hates getting wet so I got her a waterproof coat from our small local pet shop. I think this was better than getting one online as the assistant knew all the coats and was able to select the best one for her body shape. It fits really well and keeps her nice and dry
Lavenders_Blue
Oh that's super DM, is he brindle underneath too?!
The Dogmother
No, he's black. Frank is a foster dog which LL are looking to rehome, I know him because he's had some treatments with LBB. He needs to keep his injury warm.

The Dogmother
Yes, they don't last long here either; they either get snagged when they dogs are playing, or on bushes when we're out. Cyrus has a striped jumper, which looks lovely on him, but he can't wear it out as the underbody is long and he can't wee with it on. UKMARCH
I love Frank's one too but wonder about the toileting holes OH would definitely not be seen out with the dogs wearing one! We have made to measure waterproof coats by Kitsch collars and I have also made fleece kennel coats but did splash out on a greytsweater for my older hound which is knitted and buttons up underneath, it has been great for night times, camping and under the waterproof when it's minus a few degrees, he is not a chewer though and I wouldn't use it through the woods etc on its own. My other one would chew her way out though so she has a fleece one which can be replaced cheaply.
Chortle Chook
Oh I love that tiger suit Here's one of my boys in his water-proof. I don't think he looks overly impressed. The polo neck bit unfolds into a hood but my Cyrus wasn't having any of that. Still I think now he quite likes to be warm and dry. Coats for long dogs are quite hard to get from normal pet shops. Standard makes don't seem to fit their large chests but I got this from AK Creations The charity for rescue greyhounds GIN (Greyhounds In Need) also does lovely coats. The Dogmother
My Cyrus loves his coats, he really likes his Hotterdog and will run over when I get it out!
Lavenders_Blue
That's a lovely cosy coat, Shabby Chic. Tango is a tricky shape to buy coats for, luckily she doesn't really need to wear one unless it gets super cold. I guess that's the problem with being a mutt, she doesn't come in a regular size I'm coveting an Equafleece or Hotterdog for her as they look like they fit nicely, but hubby already thinks I spend too much money on the animals (not a concept I really understand ).
