bluekarin
I am going away in August with all of my family, 15 of us in total (8 adults and 7 kids) and one dog. We are hoping to stay in south Devon at Parkers Farm campsite and visit the Eden Project while we are there. I have seen on their website you can't take dogs into it, but they have shaded spaces for people with dogs to leave there which are warden attended. Has anyone experienced these and are they good? They say you can go and check you dog often. I wouldn't want to put her in a kennel and I think we will go on one of the late opening days so it should be cooler, if we are even blessed with a summer then
Cooks
Only thing I would say which immediately came to mind, is check what security procedure they have, ie to confirm the right person is coming up and collecting their dog.
bluekarin
I think it's more a case you leave your dog in the car, with windows open. Not sure actually, I'll read into it a bit more. Good point though.
TheGirlsMum
It's not leave your dog in a car it is a kenneled sort of area. Will look next time we go and report back.

UKMARCH
Hi when we went there was an area of car park which is under a wooden shelter on one side and roof to give shade. We went in August so got there early as soon as it opened to make sure we got a space. You can go back and give the dogs a fresh drink as there is a tap available. We went back after a a couple of hours to let them stretch their legs and then went back in again as it wasn't too hot. It might get too warm depending on the day and time as the sun may shine in the front. I didn't see any wardens and guess it's up to the owner to be responsible and keep an eye on the time/weather also make a note of how long it will take to get back to the car as the site is quite large. Lavenders_Blue
When we went to the Eden project we kennelled Tango for the day as I wasn't happy about leaving her in the car. Shade or no shade, I know how easily a car can get too hot and to be honest with the layout of the Eden Project it's not particularly convenient just to nip back to your car. I don't like kennelling dogs, but for one day I felt it was the best option. The place we used was very friendly and the staff had been in and out during the day playing with Tango which is more than she would have got just being in the back of our car. bluekarin
I looked into kennels and the one I looked at closed at 6.30pm which is a problem as we will be going to the afternoon slot from 3pm till 9pm. If you know of one which opens till later, please let me know as I'd rather do that. But also, shall wait till Thegirlsmum gets back to me as well. Lavenders_Blue
Ah, I'm sorry I missed that bit about going during the afternoon slot. In which case I guess you will probably be out of luck with a day slot in kennels. Must read posts more carefully before replying!

I re-read my op, and it was hidden at the end
Bramble
Is it possible to pre-book a doggy parking space? When we went (which admittedly was years ago) there was a distinct shortage of space, though things might have improved by now (hopefully!) From memory it is quite a trek from some of the attractions back to the car park, so it's not the sort of thing you can do every 20 minutes or so - that said, we took turns popping back to see our dog, that way, she wasn't on her own for more than about 15 minutes at a time - not ideal though! PapaJuliet
I can't believe that somewhere like the Eden Project advocates leaving dogs in cars, even in the shade PJ
penny70
We went last 'summer' and left the car in the shadey bit which was fine as it was about 8 degrees and hammering with rain, which was quite nice as it meant we had somewhere dry to get into wet weather gear before the long haul down to the project itself! Had it been hot though, I'd have been extremely unhappy about leaving the dog there - no attendants nearby, certainly no phone numbers taken in case of emergency, and at least 20mons from the entrance of the project back to the car. Not good. I won't visit on a warm day ever.
The Dogmother
I can't believe that somewhere like the Eden Project advocates leaving dogs in cars, even in the shade PJ Nor me! I just wouldn't take my dog at all or not go myself.
bluekarin
Does alone know of any kennels near to either Eden or Parkers Farm Holidays, Higher Mead Farm, Ashburton, Devon TQ13 7LJ ? I'd prefer one near to the campsite as it would be easier to pick her up the next day. I think we'd all have a much happier time that way. The Dogmother
Good idea, how about looking online and searching for dog minders as well.
bluekarin
I just had a look at one. It's a great idea but I don't think Neela fits their criteria (she needs to be calm, not have any separation anxieties plus other things). I think a kennel would be best place for her for a night.
