Looney
Hi all, I listed our old cot for sale on EBay. It is in great condition, but we have no use for it and don't know anyone to give it away to. Advertised as collection only. The winning bid was £10. The lady just contacted me to say she only want the fixtures and fittings not the cot itself. She has the same cot which is now discontinued but can't find the fittings. She wants me to post them (she'll pay the postage). I replied and said that I was selling the entire cot. If I post the fittings I am then left with an incomplete cot that is no use to anyone and that will still be taking up space in my house. I offered her the whole cot as advertised or that I would be happy to cancel the transaction. She has replied begging me. She is due a baby soon, desperately needs the cot etc etc. She even said I should think of it as a goodwill Easter gesture! A comment was also made about how she was sure that I would have hoped for more money for it, but she was the only bidder so I wouldn't have made any more money... This is not about the money at all. I would happily give the cot away if I knew someone to give it to. I just want to move it on. I would hate to see it go down the tip as it is in fab condition. What do I do? I do feel sorry for her but am cross that she has put me in this position and guilt tripped me If she lived locally I could deliver but she lives 70+ miles away. Words of wisdom? Egluntyne
She is trying it on. I'd tell her to look elsewhere and relist.
Olly
Say no! She could have contacted you to ask if you were willing to just sell the parts - you were selling the whole cot, and if she's not prepared to collect it as advertised then she isn't completing the transaction. merlina
Absolutely agree with Olly If someone wants something/anything different to what's advertised, they should contact you while the auction's still on and see if what they want is possible. So the outcome is that what she wants isn't possible and she's not willing to fulfil her part of the bargain - end of.
Looney
Thanks for your replies and for confirming that I'm not being a total meanie! I have responded and said I will not send just the fittings. I have explained why. I await her response.....!
WitchHazel
If she was collecting, she could do as she wished with the cot, including dismanling it for the bits she needs. However, as she isn't collecing it, she should have asked you first. It's not about the money, it's about then being left with the remains of the cot, which need disposing of. (Not to mention the inconvenience of taking it apart, sorting out the bits she wants, and posting them). You could always try Freegle/Freecycle? bluekarin
What a cheeky woman! She should have contacted you first if that was her intention not once winning. I am glad you have told her no. If she wants the parts, let her collect and say the rest of the cot comes free
newcountrygirl
Cheeky woman. Dont give in to her. Cancel her bid and relist it.
Looney
I think there is a local charity that takes baby stuff for mums in need, I might see if they want to take it. Still no reply from the winning bidder since I told her no. I'll give her a while longer before I send her the 'cancel transaction' offer. Some people eh?! Cinnamon
I agree - she is being dead cheeky...she should have contacted you first. Send her an invoice for the ENTIRE item,COLLECTION ONLY, give her 3 days to pay up & collect, then cancel the transaction & relist. If she is that desperate she will drive to collect it & get rid of the bits she doesn't need herself, rather than leaving the problem for you to deal with. charly1979
I just dont understand some people ?? I agree with everyone else and what a cheek she had to ask such a question to be honest its not something that would ever enter my head to bid on a complete item then ask for only part of it clearly she must be affected with a severe case of baby brain ?? Anyway hope it all goes well for you and isnt a complete headache
Looney
I had a response saying "cancel the transaction thank you" So it is cancelled! At least she made no more fuss I suppose and I don't lose my fees. What a pain though. If anyone in the Ely ( Cambs) area wants a cot just let me know !! PurpleTree
Hope you find a new home for it soon. I rehomed our old cot on Freecycle, it was far too good to just throw away. Cried my eyes out after it was collected though

Looney
I know! OH listed a pair of brake calipers for an old BMX. He got a message from someone basically instructing him to put it as a buy it now for £20 so the bloke could buy it and as he only wanted one of the calipers he told OH to 'just bin the other one'!
