I have tried calcium supplements but to no avail, has decent food I am at a loss would worming help I have been using liquid verm-x every month, any ideas?

The other is Hattie(light sussex) has a mucky bum she is 3 now is there anything I can do for her she is not moping around I have checked her vent and its clean but have not checked in her pooey fluff for any thing that shouldn't be there.

Your help would be most appreciated Thanks :D

Oh Im so pleased to meet another chicken keeper in Welwyn Garden City  It would be great to meet up :?:

In answer to your questions, I am no expert but I believe that Flubenvet is the most effective wormer and it only needs repeating every three months or so. That is what I use (and many others on the forum). You could try that - you can either buy the Flubenvet on its own and mix in with your own chicken food, or you can buy the Marriages pre-mixed pellets with Flubenvet for ease of use.

I also heard that cod liver oil is good for helping the chickens absorb calcium. I give it to mine every now and again in their food - in fact I have run out and it is on my shopping list to get some more. The other thing I haven't tried is limestone flour.

By the way, my light sussex hybrid gets a dirty botty too; in fact last year I was on the brink of giving her a botty bath, but she went in to a moult just in the nick of time and overnight she saved me the bother :lol::lol::lol:

Hopefully more advice will follow shortly from the more experienced members of the forum.....

Hello

Yes it would be great to meet you.

I am trying the verm-x pellets which are apparently stronger than the liquid.I have also ordered some oil and verm-x health pellets from the shop so lets hope that helps as we are missing our eggiesI bought some fancy eggs from Morrisons

and they were not a patch on the girls eggs. :D

Worming might help. I would use Flubenvet though, and not rely on just the herbal supplement.

I would also cut out all treats for a while, and any free ranging for a week or so. Also use a top quality brand of layers pellets. This often makes a huge difference

Sterling advice, this would rule out the possibility of any calcium deficiency due to parasites or diet. If they are still soft shelled after that, then it may be due to a defective shell gland; this is unusual and usually restricted to older birds or very prolific layers.

I hope she gets right.

I have changed from Garvo to smallholder pellets just to see.

giving hatties bum a wash tomorrow to see how it is bless her I think she is just getting on a bit now.

As for flubenvet I will have to see who sells it locally unless there is mail order companies that sell it I will check. :D

Thanks Merlina

Unfortunately it was a growth in her bowel so the vet advised us to put her to sleep so we did its a shame we only had her a year and she was a pretty little thing always up for a chat.

Sweet dreams poppet. I have tried 3 local stockists from the flubenvet website to no avail.

I see amazon can get it so might go down that route.

Thanks for that

just another question this time its about Ethel my bluebell who is laying softies and has been for a good while.

thing is there is no shell just the inside of the egg yolk and all.

Is this the sign of a massive deficiency or something else. she is as good as gold looks fine eats drinks has the old day when she is due to lay but apart from that a normal everyday chuck. An answer to a previous question up until last week the were on Garvo I have changed to the smallholder range they have lifeguard in the water daily I have tried limestone flour to minimal effect(I am worried about giving too much of that).Help I am missing my eggies !!! :(
