Have gone right off ebay !!!!

Recommended Posts

Because Myrtle and Melody have been so spiteful we decided to buy them a new home on ebay.

We had our eye on a lovely purple eglu in Kent and have been following it for the last couple of days. The end was about 7.15pm today and I won. That is where the excitement ends.

We wrote and asked how they wanted the money and when we could pick it up and they emailed back saying " Hi. I am really sorry the eglu was vandalised last night. We have had to get rid. I couldn't stop the auction. So very sorry"

I really needed the house to stop their bad behaviour.

Hubby has asked for evidence of the vandalism and said he will report them.

I am so cross, if they had wanted more money they should have put a higher reserve price on it - that is how auctions work isn't it ?

Hmmm - chances of vandalism in Westerham? - Very low. If you look at their feedback it seems to that something similar happened to another buyer of theirs very recently, and they left negative feedback.

Precisely how do you vandalise an Eglu anyway?

You can stop an auction within 12 hours of the end :?

At the VERY least you can add a big old message saying 'NO LONGER FOR SALE DUE TO...., PLEASE DO NOT BID'

You can also contact your high bidder.

I would ask for photographic proof & a crime number.

Have heard back from the ebay seller who said they didn't report the incident to the police - wonder why

We have put negative feedback on their item and the whole thing has been cancelled.

I would never, ever buy anything from that person or even look at their ebay site again.

To be honest, the whole thing has been has been a let down.

It has put me off buying that sort of thing from ebay and I will probably by a new one from omlet now.

I only needed the house anyway, but it was the fact I could have had it so soon and sorted out my two naughty girls.

I am sick of eBay, no where else where you can buy and sell are people so flipping rude and unreasonable. As a seller I have just removed yet another listing as it just isn't worth the hassle of unreasonable people holding negative feedback over your head as a means of blackmail

I totally agree CM; I once had a message from a chap who asked why I wouldn't accept courier collection for items - this was stated clearly in the T&Cs on my listing. he then proceeded to be very rude and accused me of being too idle to pack it up and wait in for a courier.

Bearing in mind that I have a job to go to, and have been messed around by couriers in the past, I think I am being totally reasonable.

In defence of ebay, I've bought over 1,200 things from there over 14 years

(That sounds like a dodgy addiction when put like that  )

That includes everything from 99% of the clothes and shoes I've bought, an Eglu Go, raised beds for the garden, books, cosmetics, stuff for the hens, house things; techy-stuff, stuff to feed my addiction for all things retro etc etc.

I think in all that time I've had about ten bad/weird experiences. I think that probably compares well with shopping from anywhere. I have sold stuff, but agree with everyone that I'm rather deterred from selling more by some of the unpleasant buyers out there. I think to be a seller you have to be one of those people who doesn't get wound up by unreasonableness - and that's definitely not me!

Oh dear Chucky Mama and The Dogmother, I'm sorry you have had bad things happen when you were trying to sell you ebay items.

I feel a bit bad now that we put negative feedback on the person but then it was very unfair what they did to me - all they had to do was be honest. I would have even given them my top bid which was almost £100 more than what I won with.

Like anything, people have good experiences & bad experiences.

And like anything there ARE people out there who will take advantage if they are given the chance.

I think eBay is a remarkable platform & I have bought & sold lots over the years - I have feedback of over 2500, which does sound a bit like an addiction too!

I have had bad experiences, but these have been FAR outweighed by the good experiences, the nice people I have met & the total bargains I have sometimes won :D

Luvachicken - please don't feel bad about bad feedback!

I think it's *really* important that people are brave enough to do this

I always check someone's feedback before I buy anything.

If it's a low value item I might take a risk, but generally, anyone who's got poor feedback from reasonable-sounding people just doesn't get my business
