Just been to take our little blue laced Wyandotte called Doily, to be PTS, my ES was very upset, bless him, as she was his. She had been under the weather off and on, but this week she took a turn for the worse and had just started to be attacked by the others. She had a growth on her liver and just wasn't right,so it was the only thing to do really Always sad but at least we can end animals suffering. My vets are brilliant, two of them spent 40 mins checking her over and then very gently put her to sleep.

They are very good and don't rip me off (today was £13, including an antibiotic injection for me to take home to give to my Legbar), but they really care about the animals and humans too.

Thanks everyone, I knew you would understand that whilst she was a chicken she had her own personality and has left a gap in our household. She was a VERY pretty blue laced Wyandotte. Doily was also the first hen of my sons to PTS, he sobbed.

Thanks, my son has said no he doesn't want another, as it is too sad. It is too raw for him just now, however I am tempted to slip a few blue laced Wyandotte eggs under a broody, he might change his mind then. Just got to find someone with a good breed of blue laced bantam who will sell me some eggs - if anyone know someone please let me know!
