blueandwhite
Hi is it wise to buy a chicken that hasn't been vaccinated? I got my first two girls and both had been vaccinated. Now I am left with one and will be looking for another one or two to keep Phoebe company once I've got over the loss of Ebay. What are they vaccinated against anyway? I've just been to a farm (just to have a look and consider breeds); it has a good reputation but they don't vaccinate. The original place I got them from is quite a way away but would rather be safe than sorry if necessary. Thanks in advance.
good_egg
I don't think pure breeds tend to be vaccinated due to the volume of vaccine required its really only economical for large hatcheries. My four aren't vaccinated and is guess a lot of folk on here are the same. I think a reputable breeder should be fine.
Luvachicken
I was worried about this too as I had 2 unvaccinated chicks and then bought 2 vaccinated chicks - this was over a year ago. They all got on fine and showed no problems at all with being vaccinated or not. Hope this helps.
PoachedPlease
There's a way if thinking at the moment with many breeders, that not vaccinating is better as it strengthens the general health of the breed, as sick ones die. In the long run its better i think! None of mine were, they are tough hybrids though. Xx
blueandwhite
Right thank you might have another look at the farm close by. That does make sense like us taking too many antibiotics I guess!
