Clucking_Mad
Morning all, I'm looking for some help & advice Ethel my bluebelle who is around 3 years old has had a strange poo this morning this is the first time I've seen this and I don't know what it is or if I should be worried. I've checked all my books & couldn't find anything so I thought I would come here. She hasn't laid in about a month and a half but still has red comb & wattles and seems to be in good health. The poo came out in a long strand and was quite watery with a big dark red lump in it and Ethel seemed to gently push it out in 3 stages rather than just doing her business as normal. Warning picture attached apologies if the grosses anyone out

atsw
I believe it's formed when the lining comes away from the reproductive tract during egg formation. It seems more common in older laying hens and particularly the hybrids breed to lay a lot of eggs. It's not something that you need worry about, unless they happen a lot of the time. There have been similar questions asked and answered before which should help you identify if this is what you have seen. http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=38799&hilit=+lash http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=29360&hilit=lash Andrew
The Dogmother
Hard to see in the photo, but it could well be a lash as mentioned above. If you haven't wormed her recently, then it's worth worming the flock with Flubenvet to make sure there aren't any worms irritating her bowel. auntielizzie
Certainly doesn't look like poo to me - don't forget, everything comes out of the same hole I think it is probably a lash too.
