The Returned

Recommended Posts

We saw it :D I thought it was an excellent idea, and quite well done, except I thought the end 5 minutes was a bit rubbish - they should have kept the suspense going for longer, at least into the next episode

I thought the subway was gratuitous, we didn't need to see it quite so many times, but I am guessing she will become one of the Returned?

I have to say I agree violence was too intense. I was slightly bewildered by the actions of loved ones. I would be slightly freaked out by a ghost helping itself to food from my fridge. The sister was the only one who seemed unnerved, eveyone else seemed to be cool about dead loved ones wandering back into their lives.

Just caught up with this last night - really enjoyed it.

Not often something comes on TV that is so different. Wonder what happened to the "returned" who was tied up and then burned in the house. The police said there were no victims inside. Will she reappear? Was she real?

Very clever about the twins - didn't see that coming.

Got to love a creepy kid in a serial

That little boy was very creepy, sadly neither of mine could get a creepy part on telly. Wonder what its like being the mum of a creepy looking kid. My youngest is just naughty - I could sign him up for a part in something like Tracy Beaker. The eldest would suit something like Hollyoaks - all brawn and abs.

Loved it too! :) Watched the first episode this afternoon and can't wait for tonight's episode. Loved the butterflies at the beginning.

Agree Victor is a bit odd. Wonder where he fits in? Something to do with Adele and her daughter maybe and that dead guy who wanted to find her?

I think I am just used to watching (and reading) quite gorey thrillers, so didn't find the violence too intense - I've seen worse things on the news sadly. :anxious:

I've been loving this, I think it's quite nice to watch something with subtitles for a change and I liked how they did the first lot of ads in French too, shame they didn't do that all the way through.

From what I remember in the Daily Mail it said the little boy has amnesia and the girl in the subway becomes the leader of the "returned" ones, so I guess she doesn't survive her attack.

What are those animals floating in the water at the beginning - goats?

I think they are deer. Wonder if they will come back to life too?

Do you think it all has something to do with the dam? Those men seem to be quite worried that the watert levels keep going down. :anxious:

Lena's scars are new this week (I think). OK, me and OH were having a long discussion after last night's episode and came up with these theories - or should I say guesses

1. Lena and Camille swapped identities on the day of the bus crash - no idea why but bear with me - therefore it should have been Lena who died and she is now developing the scars from the crash. The scar got bigger during the episode I think.

2. Victor is creepy but we think he is probably good, not bad. His clothes were very old fashioned so he is probably from further back than the rest. Don't think he killed the nosy neighbour

3. Simon is gorgeous - that aside, maybe he has come back to find out who killed him

4. Can't remember the names but I think the bald barman killed his brother and mother - why are they buried on farmland and not in the graveyard?

5. Something in the funeral service - didn't the priest mention about forgetting what happened in the past as Mr Costa did good things afterwards? Maybe I am imagining this. Did he cause his wife to die in some way?

6. Pierre, the man from the shelter, knows a lot more than he is letting on as he knows that Simon is a returner. Is Pierre also dead ?

Have they all come back for vengeance?

Victor is the odd one but he must link them all in some way - is he controlling everything ?

His pictures seemed to show some of the characters.

Roll on next week. What a brilliant serial

Interesting theories - I hadn't thought of any of those  I can't decide about Victor, I thought he did kill the neighbour and then I wondered if he died ages ago, but came back and grew up into the murderer (I'm not sure whether the Returned age or not) so he's both good and bad. Now I've written that down it seems nonsense

Pierre does know more than he's letting on, but that's because Lena saw Simon at the bar and mentioned at the funeral that she'd seen another returner called Simon. So he has put 2 and 2 together. He was trying to let Simon know that he knew with all that talk of resurrection, but without doing the easy thing which was to tell him

This contains episode 4 spoilers so don't read on if you haven't watched it yet!!!!

Wow now getting really interesting. I know I should get out more but I watched eposode 1 again this morning (on fast forward, just stopping at the relevant bits that were niggling at the back of my mind)

When Lena is in bed with her boyfriend she says I bet you couldn't tell if I was Camille, making the twin swap seem more likely. I would have thought that the parents would have noticed which twin died though.

Victor died 35 years ago, shot inside a wardrobe by a masked man - we now know that the other masked man was probably Pierre. I think that the woman shot then probably wasn't Victor's mother as when she said goodnight it didn't seem a mother/son thing - she said "it will be OK or words to that effect. I think he was staying there for some reason.

What if it was Mr Costa who shot his own son ?- remember he couldn't see who was in the wardrobe. I watched episode 1 and he burns lots of photos, one of which is his wife with a young boy of about 3 so I cant be sure it is Victor but it could be. Mrs Costa & Victor smile at each other in the helping hands place.

Mrs Costa died a bit later than Victor, the following year I think. Now is where I worry about my sanity - Victor could be staying with the woman and her son as his mum is having another baby. The baby is the nurse - Lucy? - who Victor is drawn to as she is his sister. The first name that comes into her head is Victor when asked as that is the name of her dead brother who she never met. Still following me

Mrs C knows that Mr C murdered Victor so Lucy is adopted, then Mrs Costa dies somehow, not entirely sure how, maybe Mr C kills her. Maybe he was so torn up with guilt he had Lucy adopted after Mrs C died ? Mr C asks for Lucy to be his nurse as he knows that she is his daughter, although she doesn't know that he is her father.

Remember the whole thing started with the butterfly coming back to life in Mr Costa's hallway. Mr C was a teacher so he would be linked to loads of the townsfolk. He also burns a school photo of him with his class of children - they look around 8. Although I paused on the photo couldn't see any rememblance to any of the now adults but there could well be.

I do have a life, honestly

Can't get my head around much of that (its not you) as I seem to have completely forgotten/ignored/missed anything to do with Mr&Mrs C. I didn't realise that was Mrs C in the HH? Its a really weird set up there in any case. I am also confused about Lucy Cl"Ooops, word censored!"n - was she murdered in Wk2 (which I missed or did it happen at the start yesterday which I also missed) or is she the teenager that died/disappeared in MrC's flat in a fire? BTW, Cl"Ooops, word censored!"n? Cl"Ooops, word censored!"n? This isn't a Scandy noir masquerading as a French one is it

About the twins, anything seems possible - I remember that bed scene - in fact I'm expecting them to turn out to be each other.

Victor recognised Pierre I think, so he must be doomed. He's never looked very trustworthy to me in any case. Are we supposed to believe the neighbour killed herself? And do you think that scar on Lena's back is from her father? I'm wondering if its some damage from the coach - maybe caused by Camille transferring it to her somehow? I'm not sure which happenings are red herrings of no interest, and which are meaningful

Now...what about the water and the dam :?:

Sorry the nurse is called Julie !!!!!!

Lucy is the one who was stabbed in the first episode I think and she is not dead yet. It was revealed last night that she has clairvoyant visions whilst in the throes of passion (cleanest way I can put it) which appears to be why the twins dad was visiting her. In episode 1 the barman remarks that its the 3rd time this week he has "seen" her.
