Now have 2 more chicks as I felt sorry for her and just popped a few eggs under her just in case..so one box eventually turns into who knows how many hens ?? atsw Posted June 18, 2013 Author Share Posted June 18, 2013 We're at 13 in total now, which is pretty much capacity for my setup, especially if the 3 Silver Laced Wyandotte chicks all turn out to be girls (I think it's 2 and 1, but not sure which way round yet ). That is manageable and where we usually are as Mocha [new name for Coco] and Latte are essentially replacements for Polo and Minstrel who passed away earlier this year. The two new girls have taken integration into their own hands, having broken out of their enclosure in the WIR the night before last and taken themselves to bed with all my existing lot . They all seem quite happy with each other, a little bit of chasing around the WIR later in the day, but feeding and drinking is not being restricted by the existing flock, so I'm leaving them to it. It's not the way I'd planned it, I usually do a gentle, managed, integration over two or three weeks, but it all seems to have happened by itself in 3 days flat this time round . Chook n Boo Mum Posted June 19, 2013 Share Posted June 19, 2013 Chook led integration wins every time in our flock ...I found Mavis (mummy hen) wandering the garden with the flock whilst Minx & Crowbie were in the nursery run with Mavis' four bubbas!
