Ain't Nobody Here
I discovered (probably a bit later than the general population!) that you can use Google maps on your mobile as a sat nav . It worked really well while finding our way around Norfolk & Suffolk last week and the only downside is the slightly annoying American female voice (although you can switch her off). I even came across a 25% discount voucher for a restaurant when I searched for directions to it .
kissinuk
It's very good, even switches to streetview when you get near! Only problem is you need a data connection to use it, which makes it useless around here or when abroad You can cache areas of maps for offline use though, wonder if that still works with navigation? jasperaliceuk
True - it has been really handy for us until we went to Ireland last week and realised we would have no data connection. So off we went to get a Sat Nav, something which we have hedged on getting for several years. It was invaluable and hubbie is now a total convert. When we driving back through the UK though I used the ipad to get the Google map which has traffic congestion shown on it which was handy. chuckmum6
There some good free apps too, like navfree. They are good for walking with as well as driving. You can add voices I have Wallace on mine (wallace and gromitt) he is very calm. My tomtom is redundant, especially as both cars have sat nav built in. Valkyrie
I still prefer maps, but I did find my daughter's one to be handy around one way city systems.
