Janey4
Hello I am Jane, a returning member of the forum who has been out of the chicken keeping loop (as it were!) for a few years, but I have just finished the process of convincing my husband we *neeeeeed* some hens and its worked!! Yipeee –I am very excited! Haven’t got house/run yet, as he wants me to make sure our neighbours don’t have any objections to us having a couple of hens, (has anyone ever had a problem with neighbours and noise before, just for a few hens?) but am already on the hunt for the perfect ladies and have become obsessed with orpingtons and pekins! I look forward to getting to know everyone and asking a lot of questions!
gavclojak
Hi and welcome back. I live in a terraced house in not so rural Bromley, I have 5 hens and spoke to all my immediate neighbours before getting the girls. I didn't ask their permission but I worded it in a reassuring way saying I would be careful with the cleaning so as not to attract vermin and also told them they may hear the girls occasionally but told then this would only be for a short period. I periodically leave eggs in the neighbours doorstep too as I think it's only fair as they have to put up with my indulgences:) So far no problems
Chortle Chook
Hello Jane I'm dying to know - why the gap in keeping chickens? Was it the neighbours, OH not liking them?? I like the idea of Oprs with Pekins - little and large
Plum
Not really my orp is the same size as my pekin Enjoy choosing them, I'm chicken shopping tomorrow
Janey4
Hello! My chicken keeping break was because I moved in with my boyfriend (now husband) and my ex bats were at my Mums. Would have loved more hens sooner but it wasn't the right set up really. Moved house last year and wanted some hens ASAP, but boyfriend proposed so spent the last year planning our wedding and now it's all over the time is right and I can't wait for our new girlies!! Going for Orpington bantams I think...very cute and from my research they make great pets!
Chortle Chook
When are the Orps arriving? How many will you get and what colours? Looks like this is one good reason to put weddings behind you
