Patricia W
I'm on an alert list for Thames Valley Police and have just received one about another internet scam. This is what it says: "Fraudsters have been sending out legitimate looking spoofed emails designed to trick recipients into installing malware. The emails say you have been notified and scheduled to appear for a court hearing, and contains specific dates, times, locations and reference numbers. It asks you to download a copy of the “court notice” attached. The downloadable.zip file actually contains an .exe file (a file that executes when clicked) containing a virus. The email has no connection to the Criminal Justice System and anyone receiving the email should not download any attachments or click any links and report it to us by using our online fraud reporting tool" As I had a friend caught out by the scam which locks your computer, I thought it worth passing the warning round. mollyripkim
Thank you, never ceases to amaze the number of scams there are. Apparently today I am owed a substantial sum from the inland revenue - I wish!

Geoid
I also received something about being owed money by HM Revenue and Customs. Only thing is, it came via post, with a cheque attached
Valkyrie
Now that's what you call turning the tables on thieves! My emails are very interesting. I have Fox news giving me diet tips and pharmacy things. Loads of people wanting me to purchase pharmacy things. I have Jack saying "Hiya how are you doing?" And some other names like Richard and Jenny etc. I ignore them - long time no see, yep, never met ya! Now I have a florist of sorts - well I've blocked them but they keep turning up with someone elses' address I guess. Bargain roses at $19.99. I wonder what the shipping costs would be. I've had your email bounced several times. None have because my messages have replies. UPS again couldn't deliver. FBI want me to send money so they can transfer over my inheritance. Yawn! But these nasty little messages will catch out a few people - enough to make it worth their while - and probably older citizens like my mum who will worry and fall into the trap of trying to find out without mentioning it to other relatives for advice. She has done that with phone calls before.

Patricia W
I got another alert from Thames Valley Police yesterday. This time about a call from a bank sayng someone has accessed your account. They ask you to call the bank back to verify that this is genuine, but stay on the line and so when you phone back, you get another fraudster. This one asks for your card details, pin number etc and says a courier will be around with new cards etc. They then strip your account before you realise you've been conned. A (not elderly) neighbourfell for this so be alert.
