I was wondering if anyone has experience with skylines? I managed to get 2 beautiful skylines form Southmead Poultry last week and was wondering what percentage of people really get blue eggs. I have to say that even if they are not blue they really are lovely so I am not really bothered but was just wondering as its says there is an 80% chance of a coloured egg.

Arrr, RedCharlie....I bought my gorgeous skyline from Southmead last Spring. She is very beautiful and is called Matilda. She is my posh girl and is my favourite :D She was very flighty in her first year but has calmed down as time has gone on. She is just so pretty though and I love her to bits. She is very sweet when anyone is ill/dying sob sob! She sat by one of our chickens last year for a couple of days before the inevitable. She is very sweet, doesn't like being handled so I don't unless I need to. And of course she lays beautiful blue eggs....I was so pleased when her first one popped out and it was blue as it is an 80% chance, so having 2 you should be ok. Do you have any other chicken breeds from Southmead??.....we have 2 pepperpot/bovan nera types which are great, 1bluebelle who is noisy and dim and a white Sussex hybrid called ice queen who is turning into mega bossy boots, plus an isa brown (Custard) and a red ranger (Crumble)

Hi Clucker1. Thanks for the reply. Fingers crossed for some blue eggs  I don't have any others from Southmead Poultry as I only discovered them a few weeks ago. I am embarrassed to say that I live less than 2 miles from them so will definately use them again in the future as I was impressed by their set up and the girls I have are lovely. They are very flighty but I expected this and they are already settling down which is good.

I have a Skyline who is Top Chook. She was a bit flighty when I got her and had to be encouraged off the fence a few times. After she started to lay she calmed down, and I kept cuddling her when we got her & friends so she tolerates it well now.

Oh, and she lays blue-green eggs when she feels like it - she likes to take a rest in winter like a pure bred posh bird.
