Car Insurance Renewal - Tearing my Hair Out!

Recommended Posts

My car insurance runs out next weekend and I have just spend two hours and more of my life to ing and fro ing between Compare the Market website and a few of the 'quotees' therein as I want to add breakdown cover to the price quoted.

I only drive an 02 Skoda Fabia estate and asked for mileage limited to 6 000 pa and want comp cover but it seems so complicated.......having entered all my details on the Compare website some of them seemed to have changed once I got on to Churchill, Privilage and RAC sites meaning I had to go through the whole thing again!

I thought this was supposed to be simple.................

Had wanted to try Aviva who say they are not on these sites but not sure I can face it! Edited to add...I did and they were tons more expensive! Aghhhhh!

We use A Plan in Abingdon to do the hard work for us and they have always come up trumps. May be worth calling in or telephoning, Alison.

Thanks for that, I'll give them a call tomorrow! Cheapest quite for fully comp on an 02 Skoda Fabia estate inc homestart and relay with Green Flag, windscreen cover and courtesy car (not motor legal) was £224.something via Churchill which I thought was expensive given I'd limited mileage to 6 000!

If you go to moneysavingexpert.com, they advise the order in which to use the various comparison sites to get the best information. Aviva and Direct Line don't appear on comparison sites so they need to be checked separately. I do sympathise though - just going through the same process with my home insurance and finding it really time-consuming.

My car insurance, home insurance & business liability insurance were all due last week, so I truly sympathise :?

I managed to save £250 on our home insurance, which was fab. Did the car through Direct Line, who seemed the most reasonable for the cover they give.

It does seem to take forever, but I saved more than £500 on my Dad's car insurance quote the first time I "compared" his (but then, the original quote was ridiculous ). A couple of hours on the 'puter and added me as a driver, and we settled on a quote of about 1/3 the original, with the same cover. Dad so pleased I even got Sunday lunch out of him

Not managed to save so much since, though saved about £200 on our house insurance, but well worth the effort, even though it can be a real effort. Best done when you're not in a hurry and have plenty of coffee on the go :D

I know your pain  we went through all this two years ago I eventually went with Direct line too as we have family car with them and as YD was to be named driver having just passed her test they were the cheapest and she has two years no claims already and each year I check and there still the cheapest so far

Have now decided to take out Green Flag separately and go with Churchill - this is actually the cheaper way of doing it tho I have always included breakdown cover with the ins before.

That said I still have to actually buy the stuff - a sit down with a glass of wine and the computer on Saturday afternoon looms

Oddly enough I had a call from Aviva the day after my search - when I explained that they were £40 more than Churchill he just said 'fair enough - bear us in mind for next year then'.....which OF COURSE I will.............................................................................................not!

Patricia, thanks for this...they have now come back with £159 with, strangely, my current company (through another broker) and so I think I will go for this and Green Flag at £55. something

Big thanks for the recommendation! Will do the deal on Monday am before current runs out at 12 so, if you want me to mention you as having recommended them, please pm me your full name and I'll be sure to pass it on...may help if you use them again in the future? Just a thought!

Quite frankly I can live without another blessed Meercat!
