Flubenvet - getting hens to eat it !!

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I have been told by quite a few I should be using Flubenvet. used to use Verm-x

I have bought layers pellets which has Flubenvet mixed in it. I changed over their food, but sadly they turned up their noses to it. and refused to eat it !! I have just also bought Flubenvet to add to food. as they don't like it in layers pellets. has anybody had the same problems and come up with a solution ! GNRGNRGNRGNRGNR

Mine used to turn their beaks up at it for a good day or so in the beginning, now they are used to it so scoff it down! Also, I think they scoff food down more readily as I have a greater number of chickens than when I first started with 4 girls. Keep at it, they won't starve themselves. Give them nothing else at all and preferably no free ranging.

Ours were always upset by the Flubenvet coating on their pellets, even with adding it to Olive oil to coat them. They didn't eat much the first day so I used to extend the worming programme to 8 days. The Marriages premix was a great favourite though. They seemed to prefer it to Smallholder layers.

I am due to worm this week as well and as my lot will only eat mash I put the flubenvet powder in that and it goes down no bother. They will eat pellets but can really hold out incase mash appears so that was easier for me as I have a fair few chooks now to make sure they all get some. Easy to disguise in warm water mash. Fussy little madams can chooks be!! :)
