Just booked a holiday to Italy normally expecting the 20kg allowance but we only have 15kg each + 5kg luggage.

All our bags and suit cases are 7-10 kg so i am looking for some new cases anyway and to take advantage of the

5kg hand luggage.

Any recommendations on bags/cases appreciated.

I have these. They are fantastic! Lightweight (the largest size comes in at around 4-5 KG) and they are very durable.

A cossie, spare pants and toothbrush and you've filled your quota. I cant pack light for love or money. I pack like Joan Collins (minus the wigs) enjoy your trip.

Have a look at the Flylite website - their bags are the lightest I have found, but they are sturdy and good value.

Thanks guys, i will look at those. I'm used to skiing luggage which you can wrap fleeces etc around your skis

etc. This is going to be a really challenge.

Take a look at the Hauptstadkoffer range of cases available through Amazon. Very durable, very light, reasonable price. Available with or without TSA locks. We have two which have taken some abuse - yes, they do get marked but that's to be expected. Definitely recommended.

Have a look in T K Maxx, Karen; they have loads of cases.

 

One word to the wise though... try to get one with recessed wheels as the protruding ones tend to get ripped off in the hold.

I got the flylite ones - they can be used in the cabin or in the hold and i go to america with 6kg of oatmeal in my suitcase and also shortbread and chocolate as well as all my clothes and it weighed 18kg last time. I also take a small backpack which can be used to be pulled along as has wheels and a change of clothing in that in case said suitcase gets lost - they are great bags.

My sister and BIL have just come back from Kefaliona (sp? I kept calling it Kelftika !) and they only had 15k - with Thompson - and ended up packing 17kg as they took my 4 year old nephew (no, not in the suitcase ) and ended up paying an extra £30.00! They were OK on the way back as had packed some old beachy clothes that they had always planned to bin before returning.

 

On the other hand we are off to Devon on Friday and I am wondering how we are all going to pack everything into a Passat estate; we DO NOT do light!!!! I am very envious of those who throw a few t shirts and a paper back into a rucksack. DM - perhaps you should run courses on packing ?

I don't do light either really - I like having a choice of stuff to wear, but I now only pack 1 pair of shoes (black Crocs FlipFlops) & as few clothes as I think I can get away with.

I am seriously considering not packing the beach towels this year & just buying some cheap ones out there, then chucking them before we come home.

The Kindle has helped - I used to take at least 4 books with me before

The worst bit is the toiletries. You need to take lots of suncream on a holiday & it is so bulky. I manage to decant everything else into little pots. LOTS of little pots (especially for my hair which needs a LOT of taming!)
