Rowing Machine; Advice Please!

Recommended Posts

I have just broken my old hydraulic rower (don't know my own strength!! )

I now need to replace (with a 2nd hand...can't run to new one  ) but I am not sure of the benefits of a hydraulic versus one with one handle! Basicallly I want it as a really good upper body workout as I already do Wii Fit Step for lower body (not that it seems to be working :lol: ) Some reviews seem to suggest the 'one handle' ones are not as intensive for arms etc

The hydraulic was very good for the bingo wings but I have heard that the other sort are not so effective? Am I better sticking with the hydraulic for upper body/arms, do you think?

I'd certainly be interested to hear from anyone who has used both!!!!

From experience, if you can get hold of a 2nd hand Concept rower, then that would be great as they are very robust. With respect to the work out; 'technique is king' as they say... power through with your legs, bringing your arms back at the last minute and squeezing your shoulder blades together. Work slowly to get the technique right before adding speed, then work in intervals of speed, then active recovery i.e. slower pace.

 I have my beady on a Pro fitness hydraulic in Chipping Norton (as you do) on E bay at the moment as Gumtree seems rather lacking in rowing machines on my price range/vicinity! OH could collect from work and I think it would fit beside the sofa...will keep looking tho'.

Are the Concept ones hydraulic or the 'pull the string' ones :oops:
