'Playful' punching

Recommended Posts

I think the fact you will make your manager aware means that he will be keeping an eye out, he may even witness her hitting you or another staff member and if he does....job done...

And another point......is she completely mad, I mean isn't that grounds for gross misconduct....xl think I would give ACAS a quick ring and I would also mention to your manager at you have had a chat with ACAS.....nothing more scary to a manager that a staff member who knows their "rights of working in a safe environment"

I am a practice manager and dismissed someone last year for a similar incident!!!

However you cut it, this unpleasant individual has physically assaulted you, and when you have expressed displeasure, she has threatened to escalate her behaviour. She may have mental health issues etc, but that does not trump your right to go about your work without being in fear of physical assault. She may claim that it was nothing more than a playful punch. You have asked her not to do it and she has chosen to ignore this request. I can't see how this does not constitute bullying and harrassment, especially as you are not her only victim. I'd have her guts for garters.

Quick update....

We have had a bereavement in the family, so I didn't go in last week when I was going to speak to J, my line manager.

Not sure if I want to speak to him this week, as I have other stuff to sort out with him now too :?

I don't want to overload him with my problems (& I won't be into work anyhow, so can't get walloped!)

So, I am going to let this current situation pass, return to work, then asses it with K, the 'playful' puncher, & see where we go from there.

I am quite determined that should this start up again that I will not only take notes of when & where, but also speak to J & get things sorted, but the whole situation is on a bit of a back boiler for the time being.
