Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Sorry haven't got one but I think there's threads on here of people who do and on the Omlet shop there are photos of people's runs so you can see what they're like. I think they blend in well to the garden personally I like a small guage weldmesh to stop rats etc and luckily my OH built one for me as the Omlet ones weren't available when we first started keeping chickens. The double door looks good too I like that option then you can top up feed and water and stop any hens dashing out when you open the door.

We have on Omlet walk in run with one extension and I love it! There are some improvements that we had to make to make it waterproof but I'm guessing you would have to do this with any walk in run. Things like a sturdy roof, guttering and waterbutt and something around the bottom to keep the bedding in (we used thin Perspex held on with cable ties. The guttering is also held up with cable ties - what would we do without them!).

 

It's pricey but like all omlet products - you get what you pay for and lasts forever!

We've had one for over two years now and highly recommend it. We have even moved house with it - an added bonus that you couldn't do nearly so easily and quickly with a wooden/purpose built WIR. In both gardens it has looked very discreet and not unsightly as the green blends in somehow, as does the Omlet netting which we use to create an outside free-range- area. It was (relatively!) straightforward to construct (and partly dis-assemble for the house move) and it is great to be able to get inside with the (3) girls for socialising and cleaning. We just bought a 6m x 2m transparent tarpaulin from Tarpaflex that perfectly fits the WIR's dimensions to cover the roof and down both sides for keeping rain out. This is held in place with bungees and cable clips and looks very smart as well as allowing us to still see the girls inside. We use more bungees to allow us to just roll either of the two the sides up/down according to the weather to keep out rain/let in fresh air. We also have 2m x 2m tarpaulins which we put up to cover the front and back in the winter (attaching to the door so it just folds back when that opens). These are much cheaper than the Omlet shop covers which are 1m square and so you get gaps and are much more expensive! We have a bare earth, with a bit of wood chip, as our flooring and we never have any problems with it being wet or horrible inside. In our last garden we did put wooden planks around the bottom edge to stop them kicking stuff out though.

I managed to get a second hand one and its great. I have a cube attached to it and you can just butt the cube run up against it. I have noticed they have upgraded the door and now you can add a smaller door which is very handy as I had to buy a cube door panel to add a "back door" to let the chickens out in their FR area. I would recommend it. Very easy to put up and take down and I only have 2 omlet covers on the top and one on the cube run and wind covers around the back of the cube for shelter and it keeps it all fairly dry. Also it gives a great opportunity to add different levels which is great when you have new hens who need to escape for a bit of peace whilst doing new intro's. It also belns in with the garden very well. Would recommend one if you can afford it!

I have just bought the low-rise one and attached it to an extended eglu run. Took me about 2.5 hours to do this on my own so pretty easy. I wasn't bothered about getting the extra height from the 2m high one as I can fit through the door. I really like it and it gives my girls 8 square metres when I am at work. It also keeps them separate from our dogs so we can all be in the garden safely together with no chasing! I don't know how to post pictures but I have put some logs and perches into it, there is also a mini-palm tree which was growing in the space I wanted to put the run in. Also hanging CDs and mobiles for interest.
