Saronne
There were two hunky tree surgeons cutting down an old sycamore behind my back garden (my ears are permanently tuned to the sound of chainsaws revving up! ) Anyway, I was out the back gate in a shot and offered them coffee and some fresh eggs in exchange for a few logs. They gave me half the bloomin' tree and a whole load of woodchip, too! ( And they were good-looking ) Result!
redbug
Good looking tree surgeons can't be bad and all those logs a bonus
The Dogmother
Wooo, well done! A tip if I may... use a permanent marker to mark the date on the end of one of the logs, then you will know when that lot has dried out (at least 18 months) and is ready for burning. I need to get some of mine burned as the woodpile is overflowing, I also want to build a new, bigger shed, so will have to lose part of the woodpile
Saronne
Thanks for the tip DM. Does that apply to dead trees? It's not rotten or anything - just dead. I've already sawn them into manageable pieces and split them with my trusty hydraulic log splitter machine. Very satisfying. My woodpile is also beginning to tip the balance from 'plenty' to 'blooming ridiculous' My grown up kids tease me about it all the time. I just can't say no; you never know if the sources will suddenly dry up! Should I be praying for a cold winter?
The Dogmother
If it has been dead for more than a year before it was felled, then it will be fine. Mine is getting out of hand when you consider how much of my garden it takes up!
Charlottechicken
There were two hunky tree surgeons cutting down an old sycamore behind my back garden So you come on here teasing us with tales of hunky blokes and chainsaws and don't supply photos! Shame on you!! Congrats on the wood score though
