Couperman
We bought a power washer 1/2 price from woolies. I have not had so much fun in years, well not whilst cleaning anyway! As the shape of our garden doesn't lend it self to bouling the cube around to clean the run out i decided to make a few changes to our monthly mucking out regime. Firstly I made some improvised netting from plastic trellis wire and some copper tube and leftover dowels I had in order to keep the chooks out of the way during the clean. Next, rather than moving the Cube to clean out the run I took the end of the run off and cleaned it in situ. The power washer made very short work of cleaning in fact it made short work of the roosting bars too, it nearly destroyed them! Miles quicker, miles easier and great fun, and I found out what colour my patio is supposed to be! I think Omlet should look at making the end of the run easier to remove maybe with different style clips that don't shred your thumbs! Anyway all in all a success. Kev. theherd123
Sounds like a great laugh! I dare not use a pressure washer as we are on a water meter and hate to think how much water i would use Currently i use a small bucket of hot soapy water & tea tree oil when i clean out the chooks
feemcg
I love using the power washer to clean the eglus - they come up like new. I've not done the cube though, just the bars, and as you say it nearly wrecks them (the cube bars are so flimsy compared to eglu ones, its shocking considering the price we've all paid ). You also need to be careful not to hose them too long in the one spot or the wood 'splinters.
The Dogmother
We're on a water meter too Em.. I've gto a pressure washer that my dad gave me, and I only use it once every 6 weeks or so. Other times, I use a bucket of soapy water with tea tree oil in it. I must say that the pressure washer gets it really clean though.
xChicken04x
We are thinking about a jet washer at the moment we just clean the poo trays, change the nesting box shredded paper and hose the roosting bars daily. at th weekends we wash it with hot soapy water with tea tree oil. I love the way every thing is so easy to clean!
Couperwife
the powerwasher was great fun. we managed to clean the drive with it it was that good ok, we managed to make pretty patterns on the drive so we could see how good it was. the child next door just sat in his gerden watching us
Cate in NZ
We've got a brand new, still in it's box and never been used pressure washer, sounds like it could be time to unwrap it and have some fun

Couperman
you could probably hook one up to a water butt, there should be enough head pressure especially when it is nearly full. I don't reckon they use that much, it is just less water coming out at a faster speed. We used a bit too much today though, mind I dont suppose there is a shortage after the weather we've had lately! Cinnamon
We have a jet washer - its a great big industrial one that Brian uses for work too. We have to be very careful with it, as it would probably take the paint off of the car It does make a lovely job of the Eglus though, when I can be bothered to haul it out of the garage
KTee
I find that the effort of dragging out and setting up the power washer then trying to dodge - and failing, the back spray especially when it rebounds from a corner isn't worth the hassle. A large builders type bucket, stiff brush, cloth and half an hour is all it takes. The real problem I have is how to wash the outside of the Eglu door and the section of the main housing (grey) against which it closes without crawling into the run; made a little more difficult as I have the Eglu and run joined on to a large outdoor run. Any ideas welcomed please.
KTee
One other point - I am surprised that the outside of the Eglu is so diffficult to clean thoroughly. There are tiny 'pockmarks' which hold the dirt and I find I have to use handcleaner gel or similar to remove the engrained dirt. A smooth external finish would have made things easier although, compared to a wooden coop it's a doddle..
Cinnamon
KTee, a power jet cleaner gets those little pock marks cleaner than clean in no time I still think they could have meade the whole thing in pieces so it would fit into a dishwasher - lazy bint that I am The dishwasher brings up the Grub & Glug like new
hillfamily
our eglus get a jet wash every couple of months.........in between it's just a bucket of hot water, few drops of tea tree oil, scrubbing brush and lots of elbow grease every week
KTee
Dishwasher? - I like that!! I shall have a go. Power wash the outside to shift the grime? Oh heck! Now you have made me have to get the power washer out and cart it and the hose down the garden. I wish I hadn't raised it.......

I see from your pics that like me you have doubled up on the chicken wire up to approx 1metre. I had built the run before I knew that a fox was capable of chewing through 'standard' chicken wire so ended up with a second layer of weld mesh around the base. Also, I found that space inside the run was a little restricted when washing the Eglu so I paved an area outside the run and fixed the Eglu run to it end on. It makes life much easier for cleaning/collecting eggs and if we want to close the girls in the Eglu we can do it without entering the large run. Save changing out of my dancing shoes just to shut them in!

Couperman
Now theres an Idea! Instead of putting the Cube in the Dishwasher you could turn it into one! It would be like one of those fancy self cleaning public loos! Once I have finished the design of my automatic Washing/Ironing/Folding/Equipment or W.I.F.E for short I will start on the Cillet Bang Cube!! Kev.
