Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Down to 3 now and only one laying so there was nothing for it but to get some more .

 

Meet Betty, Betsy and Babs . Got them from a fairly new supplier on a farm just outside Edinburgh. A very friendly woman and a nice setup.

Light brown, I think. I didn't bother too much about egg colours this time (actually forgot to check ) just went for the look of the hens and breeds I've not had before!

 

I suspect what she said was an Isa Brown may be a Blacktail though, which I have had before. I noticed a few black tail feathers when I got them home.

Just wondered as my white ones are Snowbelles and lay large white eggs, larger than any of the other hybrids and the chooks are the smallest (and the least friendly).

I think (I get very confused by all the different names/breeds etc ) that the brown one is an Isa Brown (or possibly a Blacktail), the black one is a Nero and the white one is am Amber Link or Star (which I think are the same thing!).

 

Perhaps an expert can put me right!

I thought she looked like a Nera - my mum had one of those and she was her favourite

Is the white one pure white or does she have some brown flecks. If it is the latter she could be an Amber Link which is the same as Latte and she was my second friendliest chook and outlived the other three hybrids I got at the same time. She was slow in starting to lay but laid throughout her six years.

She has quite a lot of brown flecks - the woman at the farm did say Amber Link, I think, so that's probably right.

 

She called the black one a Nero (and says that on her website). Is it Nero or Nera?

I've only ever heard of Nera not Nero. That might just be me though!

Last month I resolved not to get any more chicks.

On Thurs I too succumbed to Morehens and now have 2 more pekin chicks, Jemima and Phoebe, 8 weeks old and very pretty.

Number now up to 10. MUST stop there...!
