jjiande
Just took Lottie to the vet as she really went downhill yesterday afternoon and was very hunched and unhappy. Vet is absolutely brilliant and gave her a good examination. She thinks that she is probably going into moult (hence feather loss and loss of appetite) and that this might have led to the softies too. However, she had a whole soft egg shell still inside her that she hadn't passed. Vet said it had been there a few days as it had started to stick to her insides.... She took it out and gave her antibiotic and painkiller shots that will last her 48 and 24 hours respectively. They also gave her a full crop feed as although her crop wasn't completely empty it will save her having to eat when she's still feeling rough. The vet is a proper chicken expert so it was really reassuring and made me so glad we live near her. Lottie was ever so sweet and a good patient. We have to keep an eye on her over the next 48 hours especially. She might need hospitalisation if she still won't eat and if she doesn't perk up there may be something else wrong as well. She's stalking around at the moment - not quite herself (but then who would be after that ) but at least she's moving now...

jjiande
Thanks, all. Nowhere near Fleet, I'm afraid. The vet is fab, but even the receptionists don't make me feel silly for walking in with a chicken... Lottie has been eating a little this afternoon and is chatting a bit more too but she still looks tired and sore. Hope she does perk up. The vet said phone tomorrow to update her and she'll decide then if she needs more anti-biotics.
