Mash potato I mean! Well for the first time in 4 years of chicken keeping I gave the girls warm mashed potato for tea tonight ( I am normally too stingy and use any leftover mash for our dinner !) Anyway, I have never heard them so quiet before....it was if they had entered some kind of sensual feeding world!

Hmm, I did this once but the results were not good - everyone had a runny bum ... I suspect the melted butter was too rich and have not done it again, though they did love it as you say.

Ooh! found some leftover mash in the freezer the other day and wasn't sure I had a use for it. Never thought of giving it to the girls

Yes, ours like mashed potato too, often with 'sprinklings' of toast crumbs from the toaster or 'toppings' like tomatoes that have gone a bit too soft or a few mealworms or grapes!

I always freeze our left over mashed potato but any potatoes that are past their best in the cupboard I do a mass bake and give them to the hens.

hahah no I didn't add any extras like cheese, butter or beans, just a plain old leftover jacket spud!!

What a great idea. No more throwing away potatoes for me then, but they can't have the ones that have gone green, is that right ?
