New Years Resolutions, Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Read a couple of books but not one a month. But oddly this was the first year I didn't state a resolution to lose weight and I've been slowly but steadily losing weight since the start of the year - it is seriously hard work though most days I have to do an hrs exercise and eat very sensibly to lose anything that week

I am going to have to go back to doing fast says I think :( Despite being very active over the past month or so I have gained some weight and my clothes don't feel right. We have been walking to and from work 2-3 days per week which is at Ieast 3 miles not to mention all the decorating we have been doing, up and down ladders and on my feet all day. Only reacquainted myself with my sofa last night, I don't think that it had been used for more than a fortnight

I have done well in the getting the house sorted, deep cleaned and decorated though, got rid of loads of junk and hoarded stuff too. Including a book case full of old good food magazines, most of which were 10-15 years old  they were about all I could manage to read when my children were small. They were in our summer house, that space is now being used for little used pans etc from the kitchen, like my Christmas cake tin which is not used for the rest of the year and open freezing trays which are only used in the summer.

Remember that muscles are denser than fat. So if you are exercising as well as minding your meals, you're not loosing weight as fast, because you're also building muscle.

Instead of a true fast day, you could eat only fruit and a small dinner in the evening, but avoid bananas. Worked really well for me a few years ago.

Re fast day

I haven't, not sure I could function a whole day without anything to eat  I've not thought of it as a way to kick start weight loss just as a way of reducing calories.

You have a max 500 calories that day, and leave a long fasting period, so a small breakfast, lots of liquid and herbal teas, then small supper. Aim for protein-rich foods so they fill you up. If you're busy, you don't even notice :D

Thank-you Clare!! A couple of days fasting did get my weight reducing again :D

Funny though that I manage to sustain a diet from the start of the year when it wasn't one of my resolutions and other years when it was I didn't do as well :?

It pays to fast - I didn't think I'd be able to do it, but if you're busy at work, you don't have time to obsess about food. Just have a protein-rich, small breakfast, then clear drinks through the day, and then another protein-rich supper such as a chicken or fish salad, or eggs on wholemeal toast.

Have 2 fast days (non-consecutive ones) per week to lose weight, then just one fast day per week to sustain weight and stay healthy.

A friend does hers slightly differently and fasts from the evening before, no breakfast, then a light lunch and supper.
