Luvachicken
I love having my nest box camera but this year I've noticed one blue tit putting nest in and another taking it out They have only just started but I can't work out if 2 females like the box and one keeps taking the stuff out or if it is a male blue tit that just doesn't like what the nest is being made of. I'm pretty certain the same happened last year too and I ended up with nothing nesting in there Edited May 10, 2015 by Guest
Ain't Nobody Here
We have a new nest box with a camera in it and are watching avidly in the hope that someone will take up residence . There have been a couple of blue tits checking it out but they've not moved in yet. That will be such a shame if "Ooops, word censored!"ody ends up nesting in yours . Perhaps you'll have to buy a second box .
Olly
Sometimes they clean out old stuff - maybe he's just not very good at choosing the right materials? ("I told you - I wanted Sunshine Yellow, not Magnolia! You'll have to go back and get some more") Ive seen bluetits playing around one of my nest boxes and popping in and out of the hole so I really hope they're going to settle, I've also had the experience of them hanging around but not nesting. mullethunter
We had bluetits that did that last year. One would come and put stuff in, then another would take it out... In the end they were kicked out by sparrows.
Alis girls
Probably been watching too many home makeover programmes hope they get it sorted soon.
Ain't Nobody Here
We're still waiting for our visiting bluetits to decide they want to move in . Had the birdbox camera on this morning. No bluetits but some very loud chicken clucking picked up by the microphone . EDIT: spoke too soon
Luvachicken
That's a lovely photo ANH Can I ask where you got your camera from ? I am lucky enough to have 2 cameras one in my blue tit box on the back wall of our house and one in a tree at the front of our house which has a great tit in it. The blue tit camera gives a very good picture but the other one is not very good at all but you can see movement in it. I'm hoping my bird families will be more successful this year. One blue tit still keeps taking stuff out but there is more nest in than out at the moment.
Ain't Nobody Here
I got it from Natures Cameras. Pleased with it so far, very easy to set up and the picture is pretty good. You can apparently see images at night-time too although we've had nothing to look at yet!
Luvachicken
Thanks ANH, I will have a look at that Ours you can see at night too which is how I know our birds sleep in there all Winter, and I always see if they are tucked up once they start nest building. Guest
We have blue tits, the box is used every year, once we have moved (2 weeks today hurrah) we will be getting some camera boxes and possibly a hen cam.
Charlottechicken
Ooh, this looks interesting! I would love one of these They don't look cheap though Are they easy to use? once we have moved (2 weeks today hurrah) Sorry, just being a bit nosey, I thought you were in the process of selling/buying when I was last year. Our sale/purchase took 4 and a half months and I was tearing my hair out so you must be going crazy with it all Good luck with the move

I was going to be having one this year but everything for us too is on hold pending a move. No date yet but should have an answer on our mortgage by the end of next week
Ain't Nobody Here
Ooh, this looks interesting! I would love one of these They don't look cheap though Are they easy to use? Yes, they are quite pricey but there are different types/prices to choose from. The box/camera is very easy to setup. Just put up the box then plug and play! I had to buy a gadget to "capture" the images onto a pc (I didn't want it going to the TV, which is the default option). I also had to get the power restored to our garage which cost a fortune (but we had been meaning to do it for years so can't blame the bird box for that!). I found it quite confusing choosing so feel free to ask if you're the same!
Luvachicken
I found it quite confusing choosing so feel free to ask if you're the same! Ooohh, yes please, I had a look where you said and there did seem to be a lot to choose from. Please could you tell me which one you got as it really does have an excellent picture - I take it you can still look at it on the telly though ? Sadly the camera hubby got a couple of months ago has got even worse over the last few days and you can hardly see anything with it now The blue tit nest is coming along nicely though, lots of soft feathers inside, it won't be long before the eggs come We are lucky because in the massive winds last week, the poor box literally got blasted off the wall onto the floor - hubby managed to fix the lead to the camera and get it all fixed back up without the blue tit taking much notice
Ain't Nobody Here
I chose the Cedar Bird Box, 25mm hole, wireless 700TVL CCD Camera. It's set up to work with a telly, so you wouldn't need the extra bits I had to buy.
Luvachicken
THANKYOU Strangely our not so good camera works better in the dark but sadly that means I can't see any eggs/chicks during the day. Not only that, I saw a huge bumble bee go inside the nest box today, she must have decided there was too much nest as the great tit was happily sleeping in there now. I have had a bee evict a blue tit before though.
Luvachicken
1 egg already in my blue tit nest box I wonder how many it will lay altogether. ANH I looked at the camera site but the one I would like is out of stock Fortunately I don't need it just yet.

Luvachicken
That's exciting Yeah, I love it and believe me, from one Spring to another is a long time to wait. But it is sad sometimes to see what is going on, for instance last year the great tit made a beautiful nest and laid a lot of eggs but one night when I put the camera on she had gone and never came back, and the blue tit that had slept all Winter in the other box didn't even make a nest. mullethunter
I can imagine that's difficult to watch. Our nest box had both blue tits and great tits starting a nest last year. In the end the blue tits spent three days nest building only to be kicked out by house sparrows. They raised one chick who fledged when we were sitting in the garden right beside the box (the week the chooks arrived) which was quite cool. We had to take the box down in Feb this year because the tree was being cut down, and it had one perfect unhatched egg in the nest little nest cup. Luvachicken
The eggs are sooooo tiny. Even makes a bantam egg look huge
mullethunter
The sparrow one is nearly exactly the same size as a mini egg.
Luvachicken
Finally managed to get a better glimpse of our great tit camera and was very surprised to see 8 eggs in it It always looked like a grey telly whenever we have looked recently. Lewis
The quality of those cameras does look good, might have to suggest Mom gets one for my Dads birthday. I bought a cheaper camera a few years ago to install in my eglu Go and a broody coop we were using at the time. It worked really well so we could see the chicks hatching without disturbing the nest... until the rabbit got in over summer and chewed through the wires Haven't seen any blue tits here, though we do have funny little birds that look like small Jays nesting all over campus at the moment. They're really territorial and if I'm flying one of the falcons they dive bomb us; the other day one pooped on Frantiska the Harris Hawks head!
