It's red mite time again. Found them on my silkie always easy to spot on her. They've all had a small dose of frontline spray. Coop has been washed, dusted with with DE new bedding with mite powder. Sprayed with mite pray. A layer of shredded paper and mite powder for tonight. Entire run treated with DE. New dust bath with plenty of mite powder. A nice bowl of porridge with mint, garlic and some tonic pellets. Anything I've forgotten?

If you're using DE, do be careful not to breathe it - wear a mask; I know of a couple of folks who've had nasty respiratory conditions after working with it and not using protection.

It's unusual to see and red mites on the birds, so well done on catching them. A preventative routine with a spot-on and spray (not licensed for use on poultry in the UK) will stop them getting a foothold.

Yikes! I had my very first "outbreak" of red mite last year - fortunately spotted relatively soon and with the advice of my Omleteer chums I managed to get on top of the little 'orrors relatively quickly. One particularly excellent piece of advice that I hadn't given any thought to at the time was to be particularly careful in disposing of used bedding during an outbreak - hadn't occurred to me to do anything other than "normal" with it :anxious: Ideally I would have burned it, but that's not possible so I double/treble bagged it and carted it off to the tip post haste!!!
