Chicken bald back

Oh goodness me, I'm having a major meltdown, I did a BHWT rehoming yesterday and three girls came home with me. I expected my oldies wouldn't be happy but the noise....it started this morning at 5 both the oldies and the new girls both seeing how loud they can get.

They are both clucking and growling. They are obviously apart and even letting my oldies freerange isn't helping.

It started yesterday and there had not been a lull in proceeding since! I'm sure I heard on og my neighbours shout " for gods sake" at around 6-10am.

I am so worried this is going to go on for ages, I suspect my neighbours (I terraced and back on to flats) won't accept too much of this. I know most of you will say that the neighbours kids/dogs etc make as much noise but this is on a whole other level!!!

 

If I could have given them back at 6-30am I would have done...I'm mega stresses now.....how long do you think this will continue for???

 

Oh god she is doing the egg announce now....I'm off to try to shut her up!!!!!

Oh no, I know how stressful it is having noisy hens and close neighbours . Are your neighbours approachable? Could you explain that you've rescued some poor needy chickens (and hope they applaud your good deed) and explain that it's only temporary?

My immediate neighbours in sure will be fine, but it's the flats that back on to me, they are shall we say in "exclusive apartments"and are gonna be none too happy!!

Now one of them is trying to attack my oldest girl Barbara through the fence!

I have a gobby girl as well - I named her Prudie ases comely but should have seen warning signs as when we got her OH was holding her and she was giving him right verbal barracking. Fish wife isnt even close. Hopefully they will calm down. I know one gobby is nothing compared to several - good luck.

One has been literally screaming solidly for the last hour...I don't like them very much at the moment!

She is even screaming while eating! How is that possible?

Oh dear, mine do this when there's newbies in town. My white Sussex bantam Clara calls out ages before she lays an egg, then ages after. I do find that my girls settle down after a day or 2 of newness. sending you good vibes

I'd go out for the day so you can't hear it! It will all settle down.

I keep walking the dogs so I can't hear them. The rain is helping but they are still at it! Just taken my dog to the vets with what I thought was an insect bite on his face and the vets want to remove and biopsy!! Not a good day !

Hope the girls shut their beaks soon . I always think it must be really hard work making that racket so hopefully they'll run out of steam soon!

Oh dear. My dog has many lumps. Had to have one removed from his eye. He is 11 now and a big lab, so it's not uncommon. The one in his eye was a tumor, but, touch wood it hasn't grown back. Good luck

They will quieten down soon enough, but if you drape something dark over the run, they will be quieter

I did put a towel over the hitch to darken it but they were still making a racket at 5am:(

I have to put my girls away in the eglus each night or they start squarkling far too early . I can still hear them rummaging about and complaining but OH says I'm too sensitive and the neighbours won't even hear them.

 

I'm due to have an ear operation soon and am dreading how loud the girls are going to seem .

There may be slight progress.....yesterday they were awake at 5am peeing my neighbours off royally...its 6.26 and.......silence in the garden, they are all either alseep or they have died in the night!!

I think I had a whole hour of quiet between the warring factions yesterday too...pray for me or for them because if the 5 am starts continue they are going back!!!!

If I forget to lock mine in, it's 4:45 as well... I try to catch them then, and just stuff em back in the Go. WITH THE DOOR CLOSED!

 

But it sounds like it's settling down at least a bit.

Trying to stuff em back in aint easy as if you're not quick one nips out as you are stuffing one in. Its a bit like the cat in the box situation they seem to grow extra legs or you get caught in the face with a wing - and that hurts - theres usually a lot of cursing when that happens from me Can u block them off so they cant see each other - and a bit of tape round the beak I dont mean that last one - I do feel for you. Chickens- why do we bother with em?

Actually it was not to bad thank you. I think things are settling down a little, I had longer periods of quiet it's just the early morning noise I stress about. I hope that when the newbies know the routine they will calm down. Let's see what tomorrow brings

They are probably a bit shocked about their new surroundings after being in a shed, then transported, they will also be able to hear your hens and are probably trying to communicate with them - let them get on with it and it will soon quieten down, especially once you are able to integrate them.
